Hi there,

I am normally a savy shopper and have been going to WDW for 15 years twice a year, however I got caught out the other day. We had a long WDW vacation and I needed to refuel the hire car and was about to head down to the Crossroads area of the Hotel Plaza Blvd, I turned right and pulled into the GAS station and started to refuel. It was someone else who quickly pointed out they were charging $4.79 regular :confused3

My god, what a price the other garages were $3.02 to $3.11

BEWARE they are charging a fortune.

Thanks for the reminder. With the exception of chain restaurants, many stores that are "easy access" charge significantly more since location and convenience are sometimes paramount to travelers. Goodings, the grocery store inside Crossroads, is a good example as are the gas stations near the airport itself.

We've found that the Hess stations on WDW property have very competitive rates.

If you take the 417 route, the Hess station just before getting on 417 is basically the same price as the one on Disney property. We have using that one for years.

Hopefully you stopped the pump right away, even with small change showing on the meter, hung it up, and paid for just what you pumped so far.

Then went elsewhere to finish filling up the car.

Yes, the Goodings grocery store itself is expensive too.

I was presently surprised. I thought, since they were actually inside WDW, Hess would be the most expensive. I think they were actually the cheapest.

We filled up at Hess twice while at the World last month.

Going back to the airport there is a 7-11 off of exit 8 on 528. Simple to get off and right back on the highway. Gas always resonable there and been using this one for at least 10 years now

Also, beware of the first stations outside airport property on the north exit road. I got caught a couple of years ago. Buy gas before leaving Disney.

I would actually report the station charging the high prices to the FL Attorney General. IMO, that sounds like price gouging and price gouging is against the law.

Actually, there isn't a law about it.

Actually, there isn't a law about it.

Price gouging laws are left up to the state governments. Some states have them and some states don't. Most are in place for state of emergencies. Florida has one. I'm still reading on whether or not it applies to non-state of emergencies.

Ok. Upon further clarification from what I have found on the internet, I will admit that I was wrong to say that this sounded like it was price gouging. The gas station has the right to charge whatever price they please during a non-state of emergency. I apologize for my lack of knowledge before posting.

During my research, Florida does have a valid price gouging law though and it applies during a declared state of emergency only (example: hurricane). Businesses cannot excessively raise their prices during a state of emergency.

Thanks for reporting back on what you found.

Reporting of the gas prices being charged at that station (and the ones near the airport) here on the DIS helps all of us avoid being ripped off.

Not sure if this is the Shell station you are referring to. It used to be at least. I do at least give them credit that they post their high price on their sign, unlike some other gas stations around the airport do. I don't know if Orlando ever passed a law requiring them to do so.

The gas station at the Crossroads on the west side of 535 across the street from a Radisson and a Waffle House has been charging like $1.50 more per gallon for years now,I'm talking like 10 years at least. The good thing about it is that for a couple of years they just didn't post their prices,I knew they were ripping people off and one day they stopped putting up their prices which I just thought was insane.I mean I always look at the price before I put gas but to know they stopped posting it was like outright theft. If you at least post it then the driver simply doesn't have to enter the gas station.About 2 years ago they started posting it again and I at least don't feel too bad if you choose to put gas there,as you're either ignorant or don't care. There's 1-2 other stations on 535 that have prices like this but for the most part most of the other stations in the tourist areas are fine.I also tend to put gas at the Hess stations inside WDW,they're usually close to the cheapest in the area.If I'm by Universal or Sea World I always go to WaWa outside Sea World on Central Florida pkwy. that also has low prices and also has great food options.
