Refrigerators in Studios?

I have been seeing rumors that the refrigerators in all of the studios are changing to coolers that are not safe for food storage as they will only cool to 41 degrees, particularly at OKW, but likely other resorts. Is there any truth to these rumors?

I truly hope not, while we don't generally order food, we will take left overs and keep them in the refrigerator from meals.

If there is truth to this rumor, are they required to have refrigerators in the rooms per our contracts?

Each studio we have stayed in (BWV, Kidani, Poly) had a small frig without a freezer unit. They worked well enough to keep our items cold. Haven't had any issues with them.

I have not heard of this yet. We just stayed in a 2br kickoff and the studio had the normal mini fridge.

Here is a kicker that I am not sure about. I chatted online with a DVC cast member about this just about 30 minutes ago. She stated DVC has no control over what is put in to these studios and I should have talked to the hotel manager at the time(we were staying at Copper Creek) and this was just last week. I thought this was strange and ask her again and she again stated that DVC has no control over the items placed in a DVC room. Is this true or was she just misinformed?...ºoº

Misinformed completely, our dues pay for the items placed in the rooms, so DVC has say over what gets out in the rooms.

But are you saying that the room only had a cooler or a mini fridge? Just wondering what you were asking them about.

I will really miss the freezer part. Sure it took two days to freeze a water bottle , but it did work.

A few trips ago I didn't feel our fridge was cold enough, so I put a qt size ziplock bag of ice cubes in fridge.

I’m here now at brv. In a studio. They do seem to be coolers. i had brought yogurt, etc., and I really don’t feel that it’s quite cool enough. So I put some ice in the fridge underneath the things I want to be sure about.

There was a freezer in my BWV studio last week, and in my BLT studio three weeks ago.

I especially wonder how this would work at SSR or OKW, where all the rooms are DVC rooms, it would seem to me that the hotel manager answers to DVC wants.

This is coming from the recent poly refurbs. From the pictures...

The DVC rooms went through a different type of refurb and still have full fridge with the tiny freezer section. The cash hotel side is now beverage chillers. It would be my guess that it'll stay that way.

My recent trips, BLT, BCV, BLT all had actual fridges. Open house tours of VGF also had actual mini fridges.

Just remember, cold air sinks, so putting the ice above those items will be more effective.

Are we sure we're separating the hotel side from the DVC rooms here? I find it incredibly hard to believe they could simply remove the refrigerators (as sorry as they are anyway) from the DVC rooms. And I was going to add a bunch of extra to that sentence, and suddenly realized that was the end of that sentence and all there was necessary to say.

Refrigerators in the studios were (and are) part and parcel of what we bought. There would have to be a breach of contract in there somewhere even if it was only implied. Something doesn't pass the sniff test here. At least not for me.

100% the mini refrigerators are part of the deed, right? Just like OKW will always have 2 queen beds, no Murphy bed or pull-out sofa; I believe it’s part of the contract.

We stayed in SSR refurbished room last month and the mini fridge was present!

The hotel side seems to be converting to beverage coolers, not DVC. We stayed at Pop in June and our room had a beverage cooler.

I’m sure it both costs them less on the hotel side, and can be another thing they use to drive DVC sales. Want a mini-fridge with freezer? Join DVC!

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say in Florida's extreme heat and humidity, they are getting fridge freezers frozen over and defrosting all over flooring on a semi-regular basis. Take a mini fridge and crank it to 10 with 90% humidity and that freezer is a solid block of ice in no time. Put a beverage cooler in there with no freezer compartment and the problem of freezing over is gone.

They must be scattered. Fall 2019, we had a 2 BR lockoff. The 1 BR had a freezer, the studio did not.

I'm confused. The 1BR should have a regular size fridge with a freezer. The discussion here is about studios -- whether they have a mini fridge with freezer, or a "cooler" which is the same size as a mini fridge but does not get as cold and has no freezer.

The mini-fridges with freezers in the DVC studios ARE being replaced over time with NORMAL mini fridges without freezers in our experience (We sleep around. LOL).

I don't think the refrigerators in the 1BR+ are even a topic of contention here. They will always be there.

I think we're just trying to get to the bottom line of whether the mini-fridges in the DVC studios are indeed being replaced with wine cooler/mini-bar type fridges and it appears the consensus is leading us to "No. They are not." It is happening in the hotel rooms.
