Refresh strategy if someone’s doesn’t want to use a FP+?

Hi guys. Sorry if this is a stupid question. But I like to use the refresh strategy to move up FP+ #2 and #3 after using #1 and then refreshing again after using #2 to try to move up #3 in the hopes of getting a good #4.

Well this year we are going with my parents (late 50’s and early 60’s) and my mother-in-law (early 60’s). And they aren’t quite sure whether or not they are going to ride some of the more intense rides, it depends on how they feel at that moment.

So say we walk up to use FP+ #1 and it’s RnRC and my mother-in-law decides not to ride. What should I do at that point as far as the refresh strategy goes? When the rest of us tap our Magic bands to use our FP+, should I just then cancel her FP+ so I can begin trying to move up FP+ #2 for the whole party? Or should she tap her Magic Band but then go and sit down?

I should add, that when they decide not to ride, they just like to sit down outside the ride exit and wait. They don’t prefer to go to another ride without the rest of our party. So I wouldn’t change their no-longer-wanted FP+ for another one.

it depends on the tiering of the parks and what rides you want to go on.

In the magic kingdom, I would just cancel it so that they could immediately begin picking up another FP.

With tiering, I might let it expire or tap and go, so that all of the FPs get used ASAP and the 4th FP can be another tier 1 if desired.

For example, if you had TSMM, RNRC, TOT as your three (assuming RNRC is tier 2 when you go), you wouldn't be able to pick up slinky dog if she cancelled the RNRC. You'd have to pick up another tier 2 and use it before she'd be allowed to add an additional tier 1 FP.

The tiering part is what I was mostly worried about. I wouldn’t want to wait for it to expire because I want to hurry up and move up #2 and then #3. Thanks for your thoughts!

I find it easier to have the person who doesn't want to ride tap in and then just go sit somewhere else or ride something else. It's easier to just deal with the entire group at once when dealing with FPs as opposed to having to manage people individually.

Good to know, I've been wondering this too, how it would work. I may not be able to ride some that are currently booked, but I sure hope I can!

Tap and just not enter the ride. Or as long as say grandma is in the park and doesn't want to ride, give her band to someone else in your group that wants to ride again

I agree. I’m not a fan of dealing with a bunch of individual FP+. I’d rather just deal with the group as a whole.

That’s one of the downsides to booking fast passes so far out in advance isn’t it? Sometimes you just don’t know what you’ll feel like riding 60 days out lol. I’m glad to know some people have worked around this. I appreciate the insight I’ve gotten from this thread.

I'm going with 14 people next week:scared: and I plan to just tap everyones at once when we ride, whether they get on or not. That way I can move on to the next thing more easily. (and to think we're combining all this with rider swap too!) Thankfully I have the first 3 FP of each day planned early,so it'll be a 'limited time insanity' each day. This way the group can separate after FP 3 if desired and easily make more FP on their own later without my help.
