We are looking to refinance (it's crazy rates have gone down 1.4% from when we bought our house a year ago). We have the mortgage broker we used looking into it for us but does anyone have any other suggestions of getting the best rate and paying the least amount in closing? Our current mortgage is through Chase, is it worth calling them directly and seeing if they can do anything to lower it so we can try and skip the middle man?

Thanks!

Yes - call Chase and ask. Our house is financed through Suntrust Mortgage. We just refinanced to a 15 year loan with them. They have a streamlined refinance process for current customers, as do many banks, where you do not have to go through the usual mortgage process because they already hold your loan. We cut 8 years off our loan and are only paying $70 more per month It was definitely worth it!

Good luck!

We just refi'd. We had a FHA so we were able to do a FHA streamline refi....meaning no income verification or appraisal. Only took about 2 weeks start to finish. Had to pay out some $ at closing, but will be getting all that back when our old escrow refund check comes in a few weeks. Try lending tree or quicken loans. You do live online chat with quicken to answer your questions.
