Refillable Mugs

WHATEVER!!!!!!!!!!! The OP states this should not be about flaming those who do, but y'all just can't help yourself, can you!!!!!!!!!!! Answer the question and keep your judgements to yourself!
Back to OP: We have 3- 2 from DH and I's trip, and one from the last trip. DH reuses his for coffee, and mine has become the bathtub cup. All the other mugs we got from various locations, Pizza Planet, EPCOT, etc, became gifts to other people when we came back. (Cheap, but it worked!!!)
Obviously, since I bought a new one, I chose not to use last trips at the last minute. My cousin helped me make the choice- I figured if she was paying $130+ for her DS(barely 3 and very small) I could spring 12 bucks for a mug!!!

OK, let's see...

I have six from PO Riverside (two each from three trips, and will soon have two more), I have four from Pop Century (two from the opening day, two from last December), two from CBR, and four from cruising on Wonder. One of the Wonder mugs is here in my office, where I use it every day. One from each resort hang on hooks in my kitchen, where I see them and use them everyday. They're great for my morning cup of tea, because besides being unbreakable they're very colorful so I can't put them down and not find them again! The others are with my "outside" dishes, where I use them all summer long on my patio.

When you go to McDonalds or Wendy’s or Burger King, do you save the cup and take it with you the next time you dine in? And again? And again? Where is the difference in doing it at WDW??? Because they are ‘the happiest place on Earth’, or because they are a large Corp.

McDonald's is a way larger corp than WDW. And McDonald's charges $.14 for a half a slice of cheese, and $.25 for their chicken nugget sauce if you want more than one.

The fact of the matter is, companies do what will make them money. The mugs are $12. If you can afford to go to WDW you can afford to buy a mug every time you go. I'm sorry but $12 isn't a mind blowing expense.

BTW there are Corps that are even larger than McDonald's and WDW that do do things you would no expect: Walmart will exchange anything you bring in from another store (well maybe not Ralph Lauren or something along those lines) and exchange it for you with no receit.

Wow, I guess it depends on which McDonalds you go to I have never been charged for extra sauce, no matter what McDonalds I have been to, even when traveling.

Also, a note about Walmart, they do track your returns with no receipt by your drivers license, to be able to see your past returns and trends. I don't know if they would ever stop you from returning anything, but they must track them by license for some reason.

Let's see....we have....3 from DxL, 3 from POR, 2 from AllStarMusic, 3 from the Polynesian, 1 from TL, 1 from BW, and will be getting one from BC next month.

No flaming here...people will do whatever they are comfortable with in the long run. Me...well, I just can't be bothered lugging my refill. mugs back and forth. We don't use them as much as we used to, so we buy just one for each trip. With the coffee makers in most rooms now, we find that we use them at the pool areas for soda. We share it and get more frequent refills.

Should you keep reusing it? Disney has stated their policy on reusing mugs. If they feel really strongly about it, they will change the way you get refills in order to regulate it better. I for one, would have no issue with getting a bar code for each trip and reusing a mug.

And as far as being flamed here...just because someone has a difference of opinion doesn't qualify as flaming. I really think that the posts here have been pretty polite and restrained....at least compared to threads in the past.

I heard that you could reuse your Blizzard beach or Typhoon Lagoon mugs at either park for a $5.00 fee and they put a sticker on it that says it is current.

That might save from people spending $12 on new resort mugs if the resorts did that. But I guess it would be to hard to moniter since the resorts are self serve and the water parks aren't. Oh well!

I bought my POLY mugs on my last full day. I think I only go a chance to refill them once or twice but I wanted my souvenir mugs.

The water parks are self serve also. Resorts would have many more people to deal with.

They are such a great buy! I would buy them anyway even if they didn't offer free refills...they are so cute. I have a collection from the various resorts I've stayed in, and I continue to use them at home. The only bad part about it is everytime you want to get your cup refilled you have to walk all the way back to the food court. That may be a long and annoying walk especially when your wipped out from spending the day walking in the parks. :earboy2:

Anyway, this thread is great...also good to know they haven't dramatically changed the prices for the mugs. They are still pretty reasonable.
;)

Every time I read these threads I am bowled over at how passionately people debate over a mug! I cannot count how many mugs I've bought because many of them have just vanished. I had CBR mugs that were pink or purple with the CBR logo on them..only the name with a design under it. I think you can still find that logo on some CBR merch in the store. I've had ASMu cups (2- also gone). We had 2 ASMo cups but now only have 1, we have 1 Pop mug and a mug that we got for free at WInter Summerland for getting a trivia question right. We have a few Epcot cups from kids meals in WS. We stayed at PO before the merge and must have gotten mugs there too. I wouldn't use a mug from another resort I just wouldn't want to deal with anything. I'm on vacation. If I want to argue I can stay in NY!!

As for cost, I work for a women's retail chain & we have jewelry that sells for $18 -$20 for a necklace that costs the company 25 cents to make. They have it dispayed in a way that makes it very easy to steal and I always complain about it but the consensus w/in the company is that they make so much money on the ones they do sell (and they do sell alot) that they don't concern themselves with the theft. Makes no sense to me, but I don't run the company. That is the rationale of those that run the company. I have to assume that the rationale is similar at Disney or else they would do away with the mugs altogether & just make you buy a cup like at BK, etc. I know the cups could be reused but being that they are paper, they wouldn't hold up too long & eventually you'd have to buy another cup. I don't concern myself too much with such things while I am on vacation. I just shake my head when I see Big Gulp cups or whatever. That takes some b@#l$$, LOL!!! I do see the whole "you're spending $3000 on a vacation, what's another $12" point though. Oh well. This is one that will never go away!

To answer the OP's question I have 2 Beach Club mugs (in fact I am drinking diet coke out of one of them now) and one from Blizard Beach. I will get another 2 from the BC when we go at christmas.

I have 28 mugs right now. I toss them out as I get too many. I have 14 Poly mugs and get 3 more each trip so I need to get rid of some of those. I have kep the others from the other resorts because they are from the WL and the CBR. I won't be staying at those resorts again so I am keeping those. I buy mugs each trip and will not bring them back. There are signs everywhere telling you that they are only good for that stay and that resort so I follow that.

This is how it works people. The soda is so cheap for Disney that they don't care if people take extra. The cost of one mug probably pays for gallons and gallons of soda.

What if I drink a lot of soda? What if I'm there for a week and I drink 7 or 8 mugs full of soda a day? Is that stealing because I'm taking more than the average person?

If Disney was really losing money on this don't you think they would put a stop to it? I use the same logic here that I use for driving over the posted speed limit. It's against the law to exceed the speed limit, but people do it all the time. Cops could pull you over for going 5 or 10 miles over the speed limit, but they hardly ever do. Why? Because it's not that big of a deal. Just like reusing a mug isn't that big of a deal. If you don't want to do it, fine. Just lighten up on those of us who do.

There are so many worse things than reusing a Disney mug, get over it people.

...and to the OP, I have a cabinet full of Disney mugs. I buy new ones when I go, but I would reuse if I stayed at the same resort.

We have 4 WL, 4 CBR, 1 ASMu and 1 ASMo -- my DH took his Movies mug to work, and someone on the day shift took it

Lets see. I have 2 Caribbean Beach mugs. 2 Coronado mugs. 3 Riverside mugs and 1 POP mug. The cabinet is getting clutterish and I wanted to save them but alas that is what happenes to create the clutter.

I would love the idea of being able to re-use them because think of all the savings. Not just monetary but from throwing them away in landfills, the extra plastic it takes to make all those mugs and so on. Maybe we can figure out a way to turn those mugs into alternative fuel for our cars ;)

On a side note though, I can honestly see how people do get confused. Last December (5 months ago), I was at the Trails End Buffet and was asked by the cashier if I would like a mug. I declined and said we aren't staying here at FW, we are at Pop. She told us, It doesn't matter, they are good forever. So there ya go.

We always bring our mugs back with us when we bought ours in 96 97 and 98 we were expressly told our mugs were good forever so we bring them all the time for any stay wether it is 2 nights or 14 nights. We have mugs from all 3 All Stars Coronado Dixie Landings VWL OKW and have never even been questioned about them. So I say just bring them and use them. Just re read the post and need to add our VWL and OKW mugs were purchased in 2001 when we bought or DVC contract LOL boy I am getting forgetfull with all the planning for the suprise trip the end of May.

I have 2. One Cont. and one GF mug. After those trips we figured out it is much easier and cheaper to stop at the Publix near Orlando Premium Outlets and get whatever we want to drink! For what the mugs cost, you can buy a lot of your favorite drinks.

I don't care if I get flamed but I used the same one last year. if they change the design I would buy new or if I switched hotels but I see no need since they get there soda for free and the cups are super small.

So do we! If we go and there is a totally different look on the mugs then ya we will buy new ones but if not I'll use the same ones.

*FLAME ALL YOU WANT! :wave2:*

But I do have tons and tons of mugs from the past trips we went on!

I have 2 mugs from the ASMo. I also received 2 mermaid ones from a friends trip--never thought of it before, but I guess these could be resort mugs, too.
