Been a while since I stopped by the resort board. I was curious if Disney had added the 'bar code' reader to the soda machines at All Star Sports. Not that I would ever dream of reusing a mug from say last August.

Thanks
John

Uh thanks epcotfan. The info is for uh a friend.

Cheers
John;)

We wouldn't think you would use an old mug. We love the refillable mugs, it is my goal to always get my money's worth.

BE CAREFUL!!!!

If you re-use your value or mod resort mug at a deluxe someone will label you a pool hopper and a mug abuser!! :teeth:

Please forgive me...I haven't been on this board for a while and I really haven't been keeping up with the Disney. Please can anyone tell me what is this "bar code" on the refillable mugs? Oviously something must have changed since our last visit which was Dec 2001. Thank you..

Telly

Telly, Disney was in the process of adding 'bar code scanners' to the drink machines where you fill up the refillable mugs. There would be a bar code on mugs and if the scanner didn't recognize it as one that was purchased within the last little while, it would not dispense soda. It is meant to stop people from reusing refillable mugs on subsequent trips. I believe it was already done at Typhoon Lagoon last summer while we were there and we had heard that all the drink machines were going to get scanners installed.

Thanks John. I'm just wondering if it will be the stickers on the mugs or is it printed right on the mugs? It would be nice if it was the stickers..then this way after your stay...you can peel it off and it would be a nice souvinier without seeing that bar code written on the mug. Has anyone seen this new system yet?

Fantasia, it is nice to see you again! No, the resorts haven't resorted to the bar code, but at Typhoon Lagoon, the refillable mugs are coded. And, yes, it is a sticker that goes on and peels off. Pretty gluey when you first peel it off, but ours is mostly clear now. In fact, I am using it right now to get in my water. It is one huge mug from TL. Wish I were there now!!!

Thanks Debbie! Actually, I'm slowly trying to ease my way back to Disney. Whew..I am so glad to know that it is only a sticker that they put on the mug. I wouldn't want to display my mugs with that bar codes on them...that would look too tacky!
:p

I'm sure there's probably more changes since my last visit. I gotta get back with the program here! I don't wanna be lagging.

ROFL:jester:  :p

When I inquired to WDW about the "new bar code" policy, the CM at the executive offices told me that it was just a rumor and will not be installed at the resorts.

Mmmmm, would you consider displaying the mugs front and centre of the china cabinet tacky. Along with the plastic figures from the Nestlé magic ball, and the plastic glass and serviette (napkin) from a drink at the old Villain's dinner, the glass mug from CRT, two sets of McDonald's glasses. . . .:earseek:

I'm Debbie and I'm addicted.
