i read a thread earlier about this and posted a question. but of course now i can't find it. ssssooooo, if i read it correctly, refillable mugs are available onboard. the cost is $20, but everyone has said it is well worth the money. refillable mugs? yes or no! thanks.:p

That depends if you're a soda drinker. It has never "paid off" for us. DH and I don't drink soda, and neither do our kids, but we bought them figuring with the heat, not to mention the kids may nickle and dime us to death over drinks, it would be a bargain. They do make nice coffee mugs when you get home. You can pick up similar cups in the store on the shop for about $4.50, if you want a souvenier. Remember, they do take up a lot of space in the suitcase! Hope this helps.

We got them for free for booking through AAA. I'm glad they were free, because we definitely didn't use them very often, and when we did use them it was often for water.

It just depends on how much soda you'll drink.

I vote a resounding NO on the refillable mugs. Unless you drink soda 24-7, and needed it every hour on the hour, the mug really isn't worth the money.

Soda is served for free in Tritons/Lumiere, Parrot Cay, and Animator's as well as Palo. You get it at free at dinner, and I even got it at the sit down lunches in Tritons (I am not a buffet person, so I would go there for lunch).

Really the only place you actually pay for soda is at a bar or poolside, and the drink station was plenty for me. My advice if you like the occasional soda, get a 12 pack for 3 bucks before you board and put it in the cooler in your stateroom. You figure for 20 bucks for the mug, you have to drink approx. 8 sodas in a 4 day cruise just to PAY for the mug, let alone get your money's worth (that is figuring with the $2.50 price onboard). The drink station has tea, juice, lemonade, water... all better to drink when you are out in the sun, then soda.

There is a stand set up selling the mugs right after you board the ship. I purchased 1 mug for DH and I to share and I did not use it except on Castaway Cay. I did not know that soft drinks are served with meals at the sit down restaurants. I am a big H2O drinker and took 4 33 oz. bottles of H2O which I refilled with the ships filtered H20 on Deck 9 at the juice station. We really only drink soft drinks with meals. It was really a waste of money for us at least.

I am going to take sodas with me as we are avid Pepsi drinkers. I really found it to be a pain while at the resorts because someone always had to run and get the mugs while everyone else waited. Too much of a hassle. Not to mention that it costs them less than $0.07 a soda. Man, they're making a killing!!

Me too, since we are going on the 7 day instead of the 4 day this time I thought I would take a 6 pack of DP. Sometime I want a caffeine boost in the AM and don't drink coffee. Is that ok if we take drinks in our suit case?

yes, you are allowed to bring beverages onboard, as long as they are in sealed containers, I just believe you are NOT allowed to bring open containers off the ship when you get back.

We love our refillable mugs! We purchase them each time we cruise, and we use them over and over again at home! :D

On our first Magic cruise I didn't buy the mug. I had my "Diet Coke fix" for dinner each night in the dining rooms. On our second Magic cruise, last month, I decided to splurge and pay the $35 for the mug. We always went to Topsiders for breakfast and lunch, so I could have my mug refilled then, plus I would usually have 2-3 sodas at other times during the day so I felt it was "worth the money." Plus it saved a lot on those tropical drinks. I felt that since I had already paid for the mug I might as well just drink Diet Coke when we went to shows, etc. I think I only had one tropical drink, the entire week!! And, now that I'm home, I can enjoy my mug here too. Every time I use it, I think of our cruise!!

That is one thing I would definitely change on the ship - free soda for those who like it.

My entire family are water drinkers by choice but I think it's ridiculous to charge so much for something that is so relatively cheap.

I have been on Carnival, Celebrity, Norwegian, and RCL and none of them had free soda - I think you even had to pay in the dining rooms.

Northwoods - thanks for that information - guess all the cruise lines like that "extra" money from soda sales!!

Disney does go over and above by not only offering complimentary soda in the dining rooms, but also providing the cold box/fridge in each stateroom. I do not know of any other cruise line that offers both of these!

I have bought the mugs in the past and also brought our favorite beverages on board to keep in our room. My last choice is to purchase sodas individually as with two teens that adds up very quickly!
