I have reservations for POR for September. My last trip to WDW was several years ago when it was Dixie Landings. I have a refillable mug that I purchased on that trip that was supposed to be good for return visits but of course now the resort has changed names. Does anyone know if POR would honor the Dixie Landings mug? I don't want to pack it if they won't honor it.

Just a heads up for possible postings... you are going to get flamed.... the refillable mug program has changed and the rule has changed, the mug is good only for the length of your stay... you are suppose to purchase a new mug during each visit... with Disney's YOMD, every resort is using the same YOMD refillable mug... you will not be able to use the mug from your Dixie Landings stay!!! Sorry!!!

I just had to pop in.....I loved the way you answered this, Diplomatically, and polite and yet got the point across without making someone feel bad they asked it.....which they shouldn't.....The flame part made me laugh....THANK YOU!! :rotfl2:
I DO LOVE WHEN THIS QUESTION GETS ASKED, LOL!! :rotfl2:

As far as POR goes, it is WONDERFUL, have a fabulous time!!

You should have no problem, every resort originally had mugs that were good on future visits and later changed to ones that were only good on the same visit. For example, the Contemporary ones good forever are silver, the ones good for your visit are white with red or purple trim.

I would think that if you bought the mug at the time they were good for return visits you would be grandfathered in??? I would bring it and ask a CM. If they tell you no you could buy a new one.

I agree, I would ask. All they can do is tell you no. Then you get to buy a new souviner.:thumbsup2

Just to let everyone know - we here on the DIS are probably more concerned about this "issue" than any of the WDW CMs are at all.

I know Canadianguy was just at WDW not long ago and I believe he was one to make this observation when he returned.

We tend to make a much bigger issue here on the boards about this than is ever made at WDW itself.

I agree that CMs do not care what you use to refill as long as its some type of Disney mug, but I thought the rule here on DIS was to not post about things that would be stretching the "rules"

In this case, the OP should have no problem whatsoever and be 100% within the guidelines.

Exactly what we noticed as well. When we were at POP in May we noticed guests using old POP mugs as well as mugs from other resorts, which they had on their trays going through the check-outs, and not one guest that we saw were told they couldn't use whatever mug they had in their possession. :confused3 While it may not be technically in the "rules" to use old mugs or mugs from other resorts, the bottom line is Disney simply doesn't care. Just our two cents.

-snip- I thought the rule here on DIS was to not post about things that would be stretching the "rules" -snip-

That would be true - I do not think anyone did post anything outside the rules.... :confused3

(this is not to the OP, just anyone in general) I have read a million posts about these mugs, and I just can't believe people can't deal with spending $11.99 for a new mug everytime they visit.

I don't know what the average is, but I'm guessing that on the low end people spend $4000? on an average Disney trip for a family with transporation?? And people try and take advantage of $11.99 pp? That just amazes me.

I love the fact that we get a new mug everytime. We use ours almost every day to pretend that we are still at WDW!!

Ok, there, I said it.

our only problem with the mugs: i don't mind paying 12 bucks every time we visit. however, we generally split out stay between 2 or even 3 resorts. I do not want to buy 2 or 3 mugs per person for ONE trip, when we are staying ON PROPERTY the whole time. hopefully, with the new mugs, this will not be a problem. I heard they were good for a year(?) at any disney resorts. we were at carribean beach and they had these new mugs. (may 2007) when we transferred to Coronado, they did not, and only honored pepper market mugs.
we generally visit 2X a year, and I don't even have a prob. with buying mugs each visit.... just not each resort within the SAME visit.:confused3

I don't bring back old mugs, but I tend to agree with you on this point. However, with the new wording on the mugs, I think using one set over the course of a split stay is acceptable.

Here is the wording from my 2006 POP mugs:

Refillable only at location purchased. Free refills until the end of your stay.

Here is the wording from my 2007 YOAMD mugs, purchased at POP:

Free refills available at our Resort Beverage islands until the end of the stay in which the mug was purchased.

To the OP: yes, you can get away with reusing them, but buy some new ones; they're a great souvenir and a good value!

Why would the OP be "getting away" with anything? I think you are failing to understand that when the refillable mug program started the mugs were good FOREVER at the resort purchased.

Here's my suggestion --

"Let your conscience be your guide" -- and don't tell us what you decide! ;)

Seriously - DIS posters DO care about this far more than anyone at Walt Disney World does.

Better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Try the old mugs, if something is said, go buy a new mug.

ITA!

Recently at POP, a manager and a guy in front of me were discussing the mugs. The manager said "technically we are supposed to restrict usage of the mugs but we never do. Nobody really cares." I just had to chuckle.

I was shocked to see the things that people fill up at the drink stations including other resort mugs, personal cups and even 7-11 and McDonald's cups. Not once did I see anyone say anything to anyone.

Right now the YOMD mugs are at all resorts. Makes it so much easier to get a drink at different places. While I like the different resort mugs, I also LOVE the idea of having a mug you can use at many different places around the World :thumbsup2
