I've read about people buying refillable mugs while staying concierge level. Is this necessary? Aren't all drinks free?

Maybe they bought them as inexpensive souveniers. They could have a collection at home that they needed to add to.

Personally, I wouldn't buy one if staying in Concierge unless I collected them.

We stayed concierge at WL in May and did buy 1 refillable mug to share. While we could have gone to the lounge area any time to get a drink it was much easier/quicker to run into Roaring Forks while at the pool or beach than getting on the elevator to the lounge. We added concierge privileges when we arrived for $55 per night. Maybe if we had paid the customary concierge room rate I would have been more inclined to get on the elevator.

I got one when we were at the Poly. The lounge isn't always open, and drinks at Capt. Cooks were not included. I always ran in and got an iced tea before we headed to the parks and one or two each night after we got back.

I think it depends on your personal wants and needs, The mugs do make an inexpensive souvenier.

We don't drink enough soda to make them worthwhile, regardless of the type of accomodation we are staying in, and I think that's something you need to consider.

Generally speaking most concierge lounges are open from early morning until later evening. And even outside of "normal" daytime lounge hours, you can generally get beverages.

CDCMom, were you on the concierge floor or did they just add the priviledges and you stayed in another room?

We do not bother if we stay concierge, however for our non concierge stays I will be buy 2 mugs. I'm not a big souvenier collector, so they typically stay when we leave. But its nice to have while we are there. I like a nice big cup of coffee in the morning and the mug is perfect.

MomToo-

Just to let you know, the last time we visited there were some REALLY nice metal DVC travel mugs being sold in the gift shops at the DVC resorts, and the price was on par with say a "Starbucks" metal mug.

I bought mine back in January and it's still like brand new.

When we arrived at WL we asked about upgrading to concierge and there was availability on the floor. However, they didn't have a room with bunk beds and we really wanted that. We ended up staying in our originally assigned room on the 2nd floor and just added access to the 7th floor. The only difference between a standard concierge room and a standard room on another floor is a complementary frig. The rooms are the same size and the amenities are the same.

At the GF, we got one refillable mug to take with us over to the pool. We'd run back into Sugar Loaf and fill it up with Lemonade or over to the food court and get Diet Coke, rootbeer, etc.
