I know this has been debated a lot here. Some folks have said that they were told that they could use them forever. Below are two pictures of my last mug I purchased at Wilderness Lodge in August 2004. It has a disclaimer saying that it can only be used at WL and it was only good the length of your stay. Just thought I would share.

I don't think that the debate was over what Disney's official policy is right now... everyone is pretty well aware that they are now only to be used for the length of the stay within which they were purchased. However, there are many people out there who had either bought their mugs years ago, when the policy was that they could be used forever, or had been told by a CM that mugs they bought could be used forever, regardless of when they were purchased. No one really knows what the policy used to be, but if people were told they could use them forever, then it would be wrong of Disney to revoke that right.... if that happens to be the case. I actually have a mug from a very long time ago that does NOT have a disclaimer on it, although I was pretty young when we bought them and don't remember what the official policy was then. (And I was probably having too much fun on my vacation to care!!) Yet, some people on these boards would still be very angry to see me use that mug on any future trip.

This all started because people were venting about being annoyed with others whom they assumed were using mugs they shouldn't be, and were therefore abusing the mug system. But everyone needs to understand that people bought mugs at different times, under very different circumstances. So there is no way to tell who is "breaking policy" and whom we should send those infamous mug police after.... :)

Everyone enjoy your vacations and forget about the darn mugs!!!

The policy has been debated quite a bit.... I just thought I would share.

I am sure that many people were told they could re-use their mugs...... I was simply sharing what it says on a new mug. That way, anyone who buys a new one will not have any question about the rules.

In the end, it is still up to Disney to enforce their rules, not me.

Have a great day!

Not to fan the flames, but I was just at the Pop Century and when I bought my mug. The cashier said and I quote this just as she said it to my friend
"These are a great buy, you can use this mug everytime you come back here and at other resorts too" I just stood there with my mouth hanging open! No wonder there is confusion  about this, when someone who works for the resort is giving the wrong info to guests. I did see guests use All Star mugs, and I even saw some Port Orleans mugs. I bought mine but I was too tired :faint: to go back to the food court, walking from Georgia, I mean the 80's were just too much after a long day at the parks! I use mine mostly after the trip, my other PTA moms are always commenting on my COOL cups!

Had a similar experience on our last trip to AKL. We didn't bring our old AKL mugs since they have a sign on the wall telling you that free refills are for you current stay only. While buying the new mugs, the CM said that we should have just brought our old ones back and used them!

Had a similar experience the same trip at POFQ.

I just checked my mugs from 2001 and 2003. Neither has that message anywhere on the mugs. In any event, I always buy new mugs. It's not just a mug for us. It's a souvenier of our trip! :)

wooo hooo, another mug post. What will I do with my day when mug posts are finally banned?

Yes I believe they added that last year because my other mugs that I got earlier have nothing printed on them. Again I dont really care I buy new mugs when Im down there regardless.

ok, but lets say since I am easily confused by all of this! :guilty:
That I buy a mug at my resort. I go to Magic Kingdom for the day, take my mug can it be refilled for free? Or is it only to be used at the resorts?

It's a resort mug for the resort you are staying at and you can use it in the food court. Not at the parks.

Discuss pool hopping, smoking & strollers :teeth:

When we first bought our mugs we were told that they could be used for all future trips. Now I always take my old mugs for my wife and I and we buy a new one ( a souvenir of our trip) for our daughter. Even with that said I believe that we are the proud owners of over 10 mugs.

I love a good controversy - I've still never seen an argument that I couldn't end by assuming the karate Kid pose...works every time.

If you dampen a rag with a little kerosene you can scrub that wording right off! My neighbor says hairspray works too.

We had the same experience when buying our second set of mugs from WL (the ones that have the wording on them). The bottom line is that it doesn't matter how much we discuss it here, or even what the official policy is, if the CMs don't enforce it. It seems a fair number of them aren't, and are even the ones perpetuating the idea that bringing them back is OK.

Kids were refilling their blizzard beach cups at the resort fountains and no one was saying anything to them. Another family had cups from another resort and again, nothing said. It is what it is - People will do what they want. Most people are honest and play by the rules. Others will act dumb. I dont think the CM's would say anything unless it was a predominant problem. no?
