Refillable Mugs - Changing Resorts

We're going to Disney in a couple of weeks. We will be staying at POR for the first part and then switching to ASMo for the last couple of days (winding down time to explore the park and make kids happy with Disney theming!)

My questions is this. If we buy refillable mugs at POR, can we use them at ASMo (if we keep a receipt or something)?

If I were you I'd delete this thread ASAP!

Trust me.

Oh, and welcome to the DIS!!!!!!!! :wave2:

Nope. The rules of Disney state you have to purchase a new one at your new resort. Of course you will now get some advice from others that is not correct. :p

I'd delete it now that I've got my answer. Just curious. Why should I delete it?

Well, let's just say that this particular question usually turns into a 17 page debate. LOL ;)

to open a can o' worms! I searched the board, but didn't find the answer. I did see lots of things about bringing mugs from previous trips, but didn't see it addressed when you change resorts mid-stay. I guess it's not a huge deal to buy new ones, plus it's a fun reminder when you use them at home.

Thanks for your responses. Tell me how to delete it and I will!

Welcome to the DIS!

There is no reason you need to delete this thread. It is important - especially for new posters to know there is nothing wrong with asking any question on these boards.

Yes, the refillable mug questions have in the past turned into huge debates with people on all different sides of what is right. But I truly believe we are all adult enough to discuss this topic without fighting or debating.

It will continue to be a topic of discussion as long as Disney offers the refillable mug program

Officially, the mugs are only good at the resort at which they were purchased. Here's two possible solutions:

1) Many people have purchased mugs at Resort A, and then moved to Resort B and asked Resort B to swap their "A" mugs for "B" mugs. The resorts seem willing to do this.

2) Mugs? Who needs mugs!!! In practice when it comes to free standing soft drink islands at the resorts, WDW has a "Free Soft Drinks For ALL Guests" program. You need not bother even buying mugs. Old mugs from previous visits, mugs from other resorts, McDonald's cups, "Big Gulp" mugs, baby bottles, empty bread wrappers (as witnessed by our own DMRick), or anything else that'll hold liquid can be used to get unlimited drinks during your Disney resort stay with almost no chance of interference from CMs. So why waste those hard earned Disney vacation dollars... just take that ice bucket from your room and run down to the food court for some free Coke for your family!!!

Can I assume this is all said tongue in cheek? LOL- "Anything that will hold liquid!"

My own $.02 on this issue is that I wish Disney would allow for changing resorts. I had initially planned on staying at just one resort, and I had planned on purchasing a mug. It would have lasted me for 10 nights.

But, now that I'm switching, they want to charge another $12 for a new mug. Seems a little ridiculous to me.

I'll probably buy one as a souvenir, and just get a case of soda at the grocery store! :)

GEOFF_M, Iloved your post, but why stop there. There's gotta be a way I can just carry the whole coffee machine back to my room:)

In Dec 2002 we switched resorts from the Polynesian to the Wilderness Lodge. We ended up buying mugs from both resorts which wasn't a big deal - I really liked both mugs. :) They are a great souvenir of our trip & I am getting quite a collection of these.

I do agree, though, that if Disney is now stating that the mugs are good for "length of stay" - it would be really great if Disney Resorts offered a mug for guests to purchase that could span more than one resort for their stay. The mug could include the dates of nights staying at both resorts. Maybe this will happen sometime in the future. :)

Ice Bucket.......Too Funny! :hyper:

You forgot to remind them to get 6-8 straws so the neighbors can enjoy! ::yes::

Yes, it was a tongue in cheek commentary on the state of affairs now observed at most WDW drink islands in the food courts. The whole things make our occasional "mug debates" seem pretty silly. It's kind of like owners of a fireworks factory arguing about putting up a security fence and worrying about arsonists, when at the same time your employees are smoking on the job!
