.... If this stops them from raising the cost of park tickets or resort fees (as much as they normally would otherwise), than I am all for it.

I doubt the cost of a 3¢ drink is prompting the raising of prices, it is more likely: free dining, 20, 30 or 40% off codes... How about the astounding discount they give people coming from other countries??? :confused3

I really don't think this will stop Disney from raising the cost of park tickets or resort fees, either.
The rise of inflation, fuels, products & goods, utilities, maintaining, etc.,(and of course all the so called FREE stuff that people enjoy without paying for) and the stockholders , means that they will raise their price every year.
After all Disney and those associated with Disney, is a business and are there to make money.

(altho we as Friends of Disney don't want to admit that)

I am sure it won't...I meant higher than they normally would, but it's a moot point...as the PP said, fountain drinks are free to Disney, so it's all profit. And to clarify, I meant that stealing soda would be one of several "unexpected loses" Disney would suffer to make them raise prices more...I didn't mean that the soda (alone) would cause extra increases. Heck, even if Disney did have to pay for the foutain soda, it would likely be pennies per gallon with the volume they do...still a drop in the bucket.

at that price - I can see why Disney is jumping on this
when hearing about sport groups filling up gatorade bottles with soda
or parents filling up 2 liter bottles (I saw this)
what are they teaching the kids???

wow... I had no idea people were doing stuff like this. I can understand the crack down... it's shameful that people behave this way.

I wonder if maybe Coke and not Disney wants to institute the new mug chips. After all it is costing them $.

i don't care who is paying for the soda, the refillable mug is a hell of a deal! every guest should be required to buy one! why use an old mug when you are required to buy a new one anyway? then the cm's only have to crack down on non disney mugs! i understand that disney does not want to ruin a vacation, but come on! it would actually make my vacation a little better to see peolpe who are out right stealing be held accountable for their actions! this is better than me having to be inconvenienced because they are too cheap to do what is right!(yes..... i said it!!!!!)

this topic is a little heated for me because the mugs are so small i have to drink on right away, then refill and go to my table! the five minute wait time would annoy the heck out of me!

I just wanted to comment on a previous posters comment on discounts for foreigners. I currently live in europe (american) and qualify to book through disney UK, but it was still significantly more expensive to book with all the discounts through them than to pay outright for the same package at disney's us site. They still make a considerable amount more through them even with a discount than when they offer the us a discount. I feel that people need to respect that disney offers a great deal with the mugs but disney needs to have a plan that allows for people to reuse older mugs, especially when people change resorts only after a few days otherwise there is going to be a huge environmental issue here. Those cups do last a long time so you should be able to pay a small fee to use them again on your next trip or at your next hotel and help save the environment. Afterall, how many do you really need?

This is an excellent point. Go behind closed doors and maybe you can see / hear Coke executives saying to Disney Execs, "Fountain soda consumption at WDW is at an all-time high when their is a disproportionate increase in guests." So, they feel that they need to keep closer tabs and (possibly) coke will be paying for the RFID system to monitor / restrict output.

Why not simplify it. Do like states do it. Have bar code stickers with month and year. Buy the mug and sticker is attached. The refill is good for a year. Keeps people from coming back year after year and Disney gets to increase revenue.

So, does anyone know do you need a resort specific forever mug to use at that resort? In other words could I use an All Star Resorts forever mug a the Fort to get free refills?

Not suppose to. I wonder how they will do the refills on these? If they still work ebay is gonna be fun. :surfweb:

Disney tried a version of this a few years ago at the water park it failed badly the system hardly ever worked and it just made people mad. This new system will not work for me I have forever mugs. How about people that spend months at the fort how will this work for them

My pardon.............my error on this.........just cancell it

This is beating the dead horse, but I have a cup from Caribbean Beach that say 2000 on it. It doesn't say like the newere ones that it can only be used for the stay so is it considered a 'forever mug'?

And I honestly think Disney needs to make mugs that cost a little more but are good for all year round, I live north of Jacksonville and like to go to Disney multiple times a year and stay on property. So I hate the though of buying a new cup each time I go..... I'm going to wind up with a cabnit full of them.:lmao:

No the Forever mug program ran from 1986-1992

that would be great......the only problem is that cms would still have to play "MUG POLICE". we all know cm don't want to disturb anyone's stay, no matter how wrong they are!
