Refillable mugs~ Can you share?

ok I know I am gonna get a major flaming for this but here goes...Every trip I have always bought 4 mugs for my family of 4 no sharing, no bringing the last mug back nothing so horrifing as using the last trips mug on the current trip. Well this trip, I AM resuing my mugs, my husband and I where discussing with someone the actual cost of the syrup and the carbonated water used to make the soda and bottom line, it cost WDW less than .10 per drink!!!

This trip we are staying at 2 seperate resorts, and I just bought 4 cups at a cost of $48.00 on my last trip, There is NO way I am going to spend $96.00 on 8 cups just because I am staying at 2 resorts on this trip and like the ease of the mugs, and the truth is we fill them up one time in the mornings, and then again one time in the evenings. We don't use the pools so we dont sit and refill multple times!

I will be there for 6 days, at 2 cup fills per person for the whole week that will be for the 4 of us 48 total cup fills, for the whole trip, at a cost of approximatly $4.80 to WDW, does that REALLY justify me needing to spend $96.00 on 8 cups, I don't think so! Especially when I AM going to spend that money there, just on something different, like, coke in a restaurant in EPCOT where I cant refill my mug!!

BTW did you know that Holiday World gives free drinks all day, AND free sunscreen! I have never been there, just had heard that from a friend!

Ok bring on the fire!! ;)

the 2 times DH and I had stayed at moderates, we shared 1 cup.

when we go to POFQ in 2 weeks...we'll probably get 2. Basically becuase we don't "take our coffee" the same way anymore and I drink MUCH less soda then he does.

so much easier when we stayed concierge! hehehe

local amusement park here in CT gives out free soda all day with paid admission...there are 12oz cups located right next to the machines...I doubt they lose much money on it.

a "case" of the soda syrup is around $20 - $30 (if I remember correctly - I used to work at a fast food place many many years ago)...the "carbonated water" was rather cheap too...I think one of those cases would last us 2 days maybe. (longer with lesser ordered drinks)

I too am donning the flame protective suit. Some folks just get their knickers in way too much of a twist over the mugs.

My personal definition of snerking is a cross between snickering, guffawing, snorting and laughing. *snerk* LOL

As Martha Stewart would say "it's a good thing!"

You guy's are just to funny. I am shocked there is no flaming also. I wish i had some cups to take with me. LOL

I don't understand why everyone gets so upset. A weeks vacation at disney ends up cost our family of 3 over 3 thousand dollars. I think we give enough to disney. It's only soda.

Its too bad they don't come up with a mug program for people that split their vacation between different resorts. Something like if you bring your mugs to the new resort w/receipt they will replace your mug with their own. Maybe give you both mugs in the end or have a general mug for guests that are splitting their stay. But then why would they when some will buy mugs at both places.

We share our mugs - but not the drink!

We buy 2 mugs for our family of 4, dh and I get coffee in the am while the girls like milk or juice (not included in the mug). DH or I don't drink much soda but the girls like the lemonade or soda so they use them at lunch or by the pool.

I have yet to have someone correct me on this, but I was told that Coke products cost Disney NOTHING, nada, zilch, but the print for the advertising on everything, so...

I reuse my mug and I fill little kid cups out of it standing at the machine. At the GF in Dec, I saw a man there filling his mug and dumping it into a washed out popcorn bucket from AK, then carried that (and his full mug) up to his room. I do buy a mug from the specific resort, just b/c it has souvenir value to me.

If anyone is interested...the cupholder mugs hold more than the big fat ones!

OMG! The ONLY people who will care about this are on the DIS and more specifically, the resort board. PLEASE DON'T ASK THERE....you will be labeled for enternity.

OMG.... let me put my flame suit on!

*snerking wildly and putting on a double layer of flame proof clothing*

Funny... the only twisting I see appears to be on the part of people launching the first salvos in a "flame war" that doesn't exist.

News Flash: The "Mug Police" (as they've been labeled) don't care what you do anymore. Feel free to use your shared mugs, old mugs, non-WDW mugs, McD's cups, Igloo coolers, ice buckets, hydration backpacks, bread wrappers, friend's mugs, mugs off of eBay, etc. It's now acknowledged that WDW effectively has a "free drinks for resort guests" program. WDW doesn't seem to care, so why should anyone else?

this is the second one of these this week. im just beside myself with... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1

Actually they do a swap. They swap advertising in exchange. So, since they don't get the advertising money from Coke, it is coisting them money.

Bottom line, they just don't seem to care (and they know about these threads). We ask everytime and everytime have been told yes. Except at Pop..they said the new mugs are meant for just the trip in which the mug was bought.

But why tie yourself down with the weight. Do what we saw in January at Pop. Use a bread bag to get the frozen coke!

By the way, why is nothing ever said about all the jelly's and butters and plastic ware and napkins, and ketchup and syrup, scarfed by people not buying in the food court? Is that all right, or have I missed those theads LOL?

Most of the mug threads are started by people who are asking if it's OK to take soda, not from "mug police".

For whatever reason the people who take the condiments don't see the need to post here and ask permission.

My thought on mug sharing. Someone (Doris?) had a picture of a "mug man" who carrying a handful of mugs to the food court to fill and bring back to the room. I now picture the same person making 6 consecutive trips to the food court so each family member could have a soda.

actually after my morning coffee, i was thinking of taking my mug filled with soda from the resort, along with a paper cup, standing by the longest line at what ever park i happen to be in and selling my drink to the highest bidder..(i'm sure disney won't mind, they've got plenty of money) hope it's really hot when we go since if it's cold i could do it with coffee and make lots of money but might burn myself when i transfer the contents. actually i might make a stop at pop pre park and use the mugs i got last trip( just an extra hr bus trip each day or 7 hrs total will save me $20 which works out to over $2 an hr!!!!what a savings!!!!) so i won't have to buy new ones at pofq:yo-yo:

As I've said before, none of us are in the position of knowing the details of the business relationship between Coca-Cola, Inc. and Walt Disney, Inc. I doubt any of the CMs working in the parks have seen the contract between the two parties either.

From what is known about other exclusivity deals between soft drink makers and other large retail accounts (McD's, BK, etc.) the retailers aren't given their syrup for free. Nicely discounted, yes... free, no. Usually the deal is structured like "You get X cases free for every Y you buy." Also as Doris pointed out, additional discounts are usually given by manufacturers for promotional considerations such as signage, tie-ins, or other marketing assistance (i.e. Ice Station Cool). So even if the Internet rumor were true that WDW gets its Coke syrup for "free", there would still be oppertunity costs to WDW as part of such a deal. In the business world, there's no such thing as a "free lunch".

(Doris, Sorry to read that you had to cancel your trip last week... but I think you made the right call. I'm sure it was hard.)

Bought 4 mugs (for 4 people) last week at the YC where we stayed one night before our cruise. Were supposed to go back for 3 nights post cruise but left early due to Frances. That burns me! :headache: They'll be coming back on our next trip (told DH don't put them in the dishwasher ;) )!

BTW, there is free soda on the cruise now. Saw a lot of waste going on and wondered about cost issues. They can't be losing money.

can we do the math real quick?
how much is a cup of coffee at a resort's food court?
let's just round it to $1.50.
I'm there for 5 mornings - that's 7.50 just for me
oh - plus DH - $15
plus that second cup of coffee for each of us each morning- $30
plus nig4560

dang - $24 (or even $30) for 2 mugs sounds like nothing now...that would have been $45 JUST FOR COFFEE in 5 days!
damn! forget the huge amounts of Soda DH drinks!
(edited because my math is horrible...need more coffee this morning!)

I usually buy 2 mugs - one for each of us but that's mainly because we really like them as souveniers - he likes the shorter, fatter style and I prefer the longer, slimmer coffee style mugs that they offer.
