I am making my first trip home in a week, and I was wondering... in the past, I stayed at the All Star resorts and bought the refillable mugs, good for the length of stay. Is this offered at VWL? If so, does anyone know how much it costs? Does anyone have any experience with how convenient it is?

Thanks!!

Yes the mugs are available. There were 2 sizes when we were there last Feb. A large mug and a narrow travel mug. At that time they were $10 each. Roaring Forks(where you can fill them) is very convenient when coming back from the ferry or when at the pool with the slide. We never minded going for a walk to fill our mugs, the lobby and grounds are so beautiful!

... the 20 oz mug was $9.95 when I was there in Dec. I believe they still offer a smaller version- not positive- but don't remember the cost.

I assume the have the standard array of beverages? Milk, soda, coffee? The reason I ask is because it would be WONDERFUL to not have to buy milk and just use the mugs instead. :D Thanks for your help!!

The only milk dispensor I saw state "For Coffee Only". All other types of beverage availible. If you want hot cocoa you need to ask the person at the register, they'll give you two packets per mug. I think tea bags work the same way.

We got them when we were at VWL in Oct 01 and they are my favorite souvenir!! Well worth the cost. We didn't refill them often because we had drinks in the room. I use mine everyday.
In fact I have one from Coronado Springs (pre-DVC days) that is full of liquid as I type this from work - Oops! Got to get going!

Enjoy your stay. We'll be back in May and I'm looking forward to it!

Soda, Coffee, Hot Chocolate (packets) and Tea (packets).

Not milk.

Its quite a walk from the Lodge to Roaring Forks.

I think that in a lodge room, you are probably better off using the coffeemaker and fridge - unless you are going to spend a lot of time at the pool.

Are they using the bar code thing yet for the refillable mugs?

I thought that Roaring Forks was attached to the lodge. Isn't it a longer walk from the villas to Roaring Forks than from the lodge rooms to Roaring Forks? I have never been there, so I am just trying to get a feel for whether it would be feasible to, for example, in the evening, walk from the villas to Roaring Forks for a drink.

You have to pass the lodge to get to RF from the villas. The villas and RF are on opposite sides of the lodge. Depending on where your room is- if you just went to get a drink your mug would probably be empty by the time you got back. It is not 'just around the corner' from the villas.

Right, I said Lodge when I should have said Villas. It is quite a hike from the Villas to Roaring Forks.

Feasible?, yes. Would I do it?, no. I'd pick up a case of pop and some milk on the way in and stick it in the fridge. Especially if you end up on the far end of the Villas, unless you are going to spend a lot of time at the pool, in which case, Roaring Forks is right there.

While the walk is lovely, I usually can't stand one more long walk at the end of a long day in the parks just for pop.

.... as of Dec they were not using a bar code system. I even asked the CM what the new policy was-she asked "what new policy". I then asked if the mugs were good for just this visit or for life to which she replied " Technically just for this visit, but nobody cares when you use them". Ahhhh, clear as mud.

Thanks KNWVIKING-

You answered my question without me actually having to ask;) - I didn't want to start another debate knowing this is a hot topic.

we bought two mugs in jan 2002 when checking out VWL and WL (the day after we put down our deposit for points there :) ) and brought them with us this trip as we were told last year they were good for life. Nobody ever questioned us the few times we stopped there and got refills.

We did not get many refills, maybe 3 to 5 at the most (between the two of us) because it was such a hike from the villas.
