Refillable Mugs at ASMo

Any chance the refillable mugs at the All-Star Movies Resort will be the same ones in August as they were in January of this year....or do the designs change so that you have to buy another load of them on each visit????

Disney's policy is "One mug, one resort, one visit". But CM's don't often enforce the rule.

We used some from the ASsp at the ASmo in 2000. What do
you thing my chances are of using them again this year? Should
I spend the xtra cash and buy more?

We have various mugs from all the resorts in which we have stayed. We always take some with us and no one has ever stopped us from using them. We usually end up buying one new one anyway.

Here we go again.

Does anyone actually believe buying a mug entitles them to free refills for life?

There are threads here and in other forums about pool-hopping and FastPass schemes and saving places in line or at Illuminations for 15 family members. What they all have in common with "reusable" refillable mugs is they are all attempts to fool, or exploit a "flaw" in, the system. Why not just do what you know is right? Why is that such a big deal? Was the mug deal inadequately explained to you at the time of purchase?

Please consider you may be right if you're saying to yourself it's just a small thing. And if you want to "lug the mugs" each visit, maybe you should be rewarded for it. :D But Disney has not put in place such a program, as far as I know. So why not just pay the $10 like you're supposed to since it is just a small thing and save room in your suitcases?

If you think I'm being too judgmental, consider this: think about the lessons your children learn from your behavior.

Not to sound critical, but I have never been explained the policy by the cashiers in all the times I have purchased them. Those people really care less what you do. I feel lucky when one of them even is polite (I think the quality of the CMs in the food courts are really bad lately, but that is another story). I can honestly say that I have never noticed a sign explaining the policy either.

I say this, "If Disney isn't that worried about it, then you do not need to worry about it."

I'll take your "advice" under advisement.

You may not have "been explained the policy by the cashiers" but that does not mean you do not know the policy. In my opinion, you may have an unpleasant experience if you get caught.

It seems to be a matter of conscience if you get away with it.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.......a refillable mug policy eh?

I certainly wasn't suggesting getting free Disney refills for life, but merely wondered if the cup designs changed periodically. I imagine the Disney organization has pondered the thought of potential exploitation on the mug refilling front.
I was there only 6 months ago, for three days, and am fairly sure my husband, 2 year old and I did not drink $30 worth of soda in that short span of time.
While I don't believe they 'owe' me anything, I do wonder why they do not advertise the fact that you DON'T have to spend $10 on a soda, and that if you wish they have regular disposable cups under the counter for I imagine a much lower price. I can only guess at the price...because I certainly did not see any displayed.

The question was innocent enough.

I like your user name. How do get along with your son's wife (who can eat no lean)?

That's a good one. When you bought sodas you spent $10 each? Were they the biggie size? :jester:

Look, whoeveryouare, nobody's going to follow you around and make sure you don't get cheated by buying the $10 mugs when all you wanted was a "disposable cup under the counter," okay?

You "merely wondered if the cup designs changed periodically." Yeah, right. That's why your wrote: OK.....it sounds like it is worth taking the old mugs then!!

You may have it backwards. Many first-time guests are unaware of the refillable mugs (as I was); but they do not pretend they did not see the disposable kind displayed. :(

billybaruch1, I neither have to explain myself to you, nor seek your approval.
I am trying to determine the norm amongst you 'professional Disneyites". And the norm seems to be that people re-use their cups on subsequent visits. I doubt I will be bankrupting the company by following suit.
And for the record...........I am not feigning innocence over the purchase of non-refillable cup drinks. They are NOT clearly displayed at ASMo, if displayed at all.

It would be okay if you let it go or perhaps mentioned maybe you'd buy a new set of mugs next visit.

However,

I was not looking for an explanation and I wasn't hoping you would seek my approval. You have your own life to live. But you may have me confused with the "pros." I'm in planning mode for my next visit to Disney, but it's just a hobby with me.:)

I don't believe you can say with any certainty that the "norm" is as you say. On this thread you were the 1st and the 4th poster. Neither the 2nd nor the 3rd supports your moral viewpoint.

Please listen to yourself: "I doubt I will be bankrupting the company."

If that is not the classic shop-lifters excuse, what is it? You may not like this, but as of tonight, if I see your kind of "normal" behavior, I'll turn you in. No questions asked.

OK now, I have to pipe in with some inside knowledge. I can not say that this is still in effect, but I was told by a very reputable source (high inside Coca Cola) that when Disney started the refillable mug plan, Disney did not pay a cent for the actual product. Please do not ask my source, because friendships are more important than this Internet board. Coke could use the Disney name as they pleased for advertising and Disney did not pay for the product at any of their properties.

You may wonder where I am going with this. If Disney does not pay a cent for the product you drink, why would they care at all if you re-use your mugs. They make a profit on your initial investment in the mugs.

Please do not get me wrong, I am a Disney stockholder and I would prefer that everyone buy new mugs every visit. From a financial standpoint Disney makes money when you buy new mugs, but it does not loose money when you do not.

Please do not forget that Disney is out for a profit. They are not some regulated utility that makes a specific rate on you. They are a profit seeking company.

Don't think I am down on them. I spend at least three weeks a year there (I am an addict). Maybe we should start a support group?

I hope this helps your moral decisions.

At CBR above the beverages it states that the mugs are good for length of stay when purchased.

So how does that work into everyones plan then? At CBR you are told how long your mug is good for.

Also the disposable cups are kept at the cashier. When you pay you are given the cup.

Okay, let's bring on the refillable mug issue AGAIN! I was told when I purchased my refillable mug back in 2000, at the All Star Music food court, that it was good, for life, at ALLl the All Star resorts!!!Now why would they tell me that knowing I was registered at the All Star Music? I took it and used it at the All Star Music resort again when I went for my solo trip in August of 2001. Maybe, just maybe, the CMs were saying, when I initially purchased the mug, if I came back to WDW and stayed at one of the other All Star resorts I could still use it there?

TC:cool: Who is going in 3 weeks to All Star Movies and plans on taking her All Star Music mugs with her!!!

You may not have "been explained the policy by the cashiers" but that does not mean you do not know the policy.

For the record,we purchased mugs at the ASMusic in 1999.We were told, and I asked again to make sure, that they were good at any AllStar Resort FOR LIFE .I clearly understood what I was told because,as I said,I asked twice for verification.

We used them on that visit, and in 2000 we used them at the ASMovies with no problem,no question,no funny looks.Maybe the policy has changed since then,or maybe it's different at different resorts, but that is what I was TOLD by a CM at that resort.

As recently as last August, when we stayed at the AKL, we purchases their mugs,, and were told they were refillable for future visits as well. Now, since that visit, I saw all the finger pointing, and hoopla about 'cheating Disney' if you actually do reuse the mugs that you were told were to be used on future visits at that particular resort,, I didn't take my mugs back in January, because I didn't want to 'cheat Disney'. Upon checkin, I asked the CM behind the desk what the story was,, that I had stayed there in August, purchased mugs,, been told they were to used on future visits,, etc,, and they said that was correct. That we were very welcome to bring our mugs back to reuse. I also asked again down in Mara, when purchasing my new mug about the policy, if I could have brought the mug from my last visit,, and they said that's what they are for.

I have read on these boards that CM's don't know the policy, or they are ignoring it,, etc, etc. Bottom line,, it's not the guest's responsibilty to try to second guess what policy is. If we are told the policy is that we are to reuse the mugs,, (it's called a loyalty scheme), then people should stop being prosecuted by others. While these boards can be informative,, they don't always get the information right either.

I will always ask about the mugs,, mainly because of how the whole issue gets so many people stressed about who is doing what. I want to follow the correct policy. I hate packing mugs,, and to be honest, in the past, I have never bothered,, and am sure I am not going to bother this time,, but I do know what I have been told in the past when mugs were purchased. That they were to be used again if you stay at the resort you purchased them at. It's to get you to visit there again.

So do you believe the sign by the beverage bar that was installed when they refurbished the food court at CBR in 2003 or a CM?

I did notice on my last visit in January that the disposable cups were no longer in plain site by the cashier. She had to get them out of a cabinet under the register. It did appear at first that you had to buy the mugs or a $2.50 bottle of soda.
