Refillable mugs and drinks with meal question

I'm SURE this has been asked, but I've searched and can't find the answer. Just curious, we will eat a couple of meals at our resort quick service restaurant. I know each meal comes with a drink, but we'll have our refillable mugs with us. Can the drink with that quick service resort meal be replaced with something else? Is it one of those things that it depends on who the CM is? What's the general rule, written or unwritten on this? Thanks!

We always just get another drink when we eat at the food court and use our mugs; either bottled water, vitamin water, juice, etc. I suppose it would depend on the CM, but since the price of a drink vs the price of an ice cream or other snack is much cheaper, I seriously doubt that you'd be allowed to replace the drink. And also, since a dessert does come with your meal if you're using a dining plan, I think an extra drink would be a good choice. I'm sure there are instances when someone was able to substitute, like I said, it prob depends on the CM. You can always just ask when you get there. :) We have substituted fruit or veggies and dip or apple slices with caramel for the standard dessert offerings at the food court though.

I've been thinking about this sort of question for my upcoming trip. I decided that if we were to eat at the Resort QS, we would get something bottled for our drink, probably water since the water in the area is terrible! That way we still get our drink from the DDP, but we can have as much coffee, tea, soda etc with our mugs.

That seems to be the trend for folks who eat at their resort food court -- use the mug for beverages during the meal, and get bottled beverages to take away for later.

Yes, I get a bottled drink. Usually milk or Power-Aid. I have a fridge to keep the drinks cold.

I used to get the Vitamin Water until I found out how much sugar is in it. They market it to make it sound healthy.

Thanks! I think we'll be sure and get bottled drinks on the day we do this! Last year when we went in May, we filled our mug (the three of us shared one mug, lol, because it wasn't included in our package and we're cheap sometimes:laughing:) before we left for the hotel, take it to the park (just shoved the straw into the lid and closed the lid while on the bus) and it would last us until lunch that day, so I didn't see the need in MORE drinks for breakfast, etc., but having the bottles will just be more convienent!!!!! I don't know why that hadn't occurred to me!!!!:confused3I was just picturing the fountain drinks at the hotel!

A question about this, since I'll be using the CS dining plan for the 1st time... Do I need to purchase the dessert and the beverage when I purchase my dinner? Or, can I purchase just dinner and use my refillable mug... Then go back an hour later for a bottle of water... And an hour later for dessert?

you cannot go back later for the bottled drink or dessert...it's all or nothing on the dining plan...use it or lose it.

The ONLY exception is if you choose ice cream as your dessert at your resort counter service...they will let you come back within a short time to get your ice cream so it's not sitting on your tray melting while you eat. At POFQ, they said 30 minutes, but I've read that some resorts allow an hour to come back for the ice cream.

Just to add, I'm just back from POFQ and this 30 mins was never enforced and we got ice cream neraly everyday.

Once, I ordered an ice cream with lunch but was too full to eat it at 11am. I didnt pick it up until 10.30 that night which was most handy for an after park snack :)

That's great that worked for you...the CM gave us "what for" when we went back after an hour! Felt like a little kid sneaking a cookie, lol.

The general rule (unwritten) is that you cannot substitute a food item for a beverage. (Your mileage may vary depending completely on whether or not you get a cashier who is willing to do the substitution). In fact, at breakfast you are entitled to two beverages as a beverage is substituted for dessert (the brochures say juice, but apparently any beverage will do)

The best suggestion I have seen is to get the bottled beverages and carry those with you.

Last year at Pop during FD, we were able to get a bagel w/ cream cheese, or fruit cup in place of one of our CS drinks at breakfast. I hope we are able to do the same at ASMu next month.
