Refillable Mug

We are honest and play fair, because that is the way things should be. Not just at WDW, but everywhere.
As should be the goal of all good people everywhere. :lovestruc

FACT: Reusing mugs does impact every other person that buys them. When Disney sets the prices for these mugs, they take into account the people that will reuse them even though it is against Disney's rules. This then pushes the price up of every mug they sell, because they want to make sure they still make a profit to pay their employees that sell you the mug, etc. Think of the mug selling as a business person would think of it, and take the morals out of it. Then you will see what I mean.

How about we take into consideration that unnecessarily buying new mugs every trip hurts the environment? Hope the naysayers children and grandchildren love that awesome ozone layer. I'd rather spend more on pop then live on a severely hurting planet.

I was stating a fact, as so many have asked us to do. The fact is that WDW is a business, they must operate like one. The environment has nothing to do with it.

And to use the excuse of being "green" to go against Disney's posted policy is unnecessary. I could use the argument that clothes are not "green," so let's all go naked!!!! That sounds fun to me.

I don't know why so many excuses need to be used to cheat the system. Oh I'm not getting caught so it doesn't matter, oh Disney makes a huge profit anyway so it doesn't matter, oh I'm being green.

Until Disney decides that they want their guests to be green, then we will be stuck with buying a mug, the ones that choose to follow the posted guidelines anyway.

And it's not like you're going home and throwing it away, well I'm not anyway. I reuse them. I take my water and juice to work with me everyday so I don't spill it. And we use them at the beach. And if I had to throw them out, I would throw them in my recycle bin to be recycled. Not such a big deal to just buy another one.

Fact : in the past whenever Disney noticed a significant loss of revenue due to a loophole/abuse of the system, they fixed it.

I'm not denying the existence of the "rule", I'm denying the fact that Disney cares if it's followed or not.

When guests on the DDP were using cheap kids credits to buy adult meals, they modified their system so that the kids and adults credits would be separated. Problem fixed.

When guests purposely checked in a resort on December 19th in order to get the cheapest rate of the year for the rest of the mighty expensive Holiday season, they changed their reservation system and put a stop to it.

They've made 2 decisions about mugs in the past 2 years and both of them facilitate reusing them.

It's a hot topic on the DIS but it obviously is a non-issue for Disney.

We may or may not bring the mugs from our July trip back with us in October. I have no idea where they are, and won't hunt for them, but yeah if they happen to pop up before we leave they'll take a little trip back to their home land. Don't worry, there are no kids in our party, and we don't plan on wearing our "Clap if you're reusing your mug" T-Shirts when we hit the food court, so no one will be scarred emotionally by our decision.

Again I say I'm not one who reuses mugs. However.......

I'd just have to point out that the statement about environment having nothing to do with things pertaining to WDW "because it's a business" (be it a mug or asking you to reuse towels) isn't really something we can simply dismiss.

WDW is extremely critical of itself when it comes to it's impact on the environment. To assume that environmental issues don't play a major role in business decisions seems dangerous even when doing so just to make a point about refillable mugs. Follow the link below and read for yourself.

While the idea that someone would use it as a reason to reuse a mug is wrong in the eyes of the current policy but it's not a subject someone else should say is "unnecessary" to being discussed as a reason to disagree with the policy.

Wrong for the policy? - yes
Wrong for someone to express feelings regarding the idea of to many mugs impacting the planet? - No
Wrong to question peoples morals and make personal attacks on the DIS? - yes -

Don't worry about this last one stopping people from doing it though. People like to pick and choose what "rules" they want to follow and which they want to ignore. That point has been made over and over again in the thread just by reading comments made by other members here. Some rules in life aren't posted on a sign but are still followed. Passing judgment on others would be a big one in my book.

Maybe one day those who feel this issue is out of control will get their wish and Disney will post a mug enforcement officer to punish those who in their eyes need it. Until then it will simply be a reason for people to get angry on message boards and argue.

To say "Until Disney decides that they want their guests to be green, then we will be stuck with buying a mug, the ones that choose to follow the posted guidelines anyway" could easily be countered that until Disney decides they want to find a way to enforce the mug policy the resorts will be stuck with this simple problem regardless of who follows the posted guidelines.

Back to my point:

Disney's business vs. environmental impact go hand in hand. They always have to some degree. It doesn't make it right to break the rules. But it should be considered in any revamping of the current system in place should they ever consider it.

Anyways... to the link... here's an example..... 57,000 pounds of room keys (4.75 million) were sent to the manufacturer to be recycled in 2006.

I know that the refillable mugs at the waterparks can be brought back and you can just buy a new sticker with a current UPC for like half-price,

Really? My husband asked if he should pack it and I told him no. I guess I'll pack it!

Thanks!

No, all the mugs have the same "Year of a Million Dreams" design now.

See, guests reusing mugs is such a HUGE deal for Disney that not only have they made mugs the same through all the resorts (but CSR), they also have not bothered to change the design from last year's.

I wish they hadn't made them all the same. We were looking forward to collecting them....

How about the FACT, that Disney sold mugs at one time and told guests they were good for LIFE and FOREVER, at the resorts? Thats prob why when CMs see guests with those older, wide resort mugs, they dont say anything to anyone. I have an up to date one from last year, but many still use those.

If Disney has changed their mind and are going back on what they were selling and advertising, then anyone with an older mug should be given a free exchange for a new mug and be told the new "rules" or otherwise have a different system. Many people buy the mugs and are not even told anything and if they do ask its usually "its good for unlimited refills". That's it. Everyone says something different, so obviously it aint that big a deal then. Even managers are standing right there and say nothing to people filling up their 10 year old mugs. Some people wanna keep buying mugs, some dont. If it really was a big deal, Disney would take care of it just like they do everything else and they'd be sure to change the mugs more often instead of keeping it identical.

Let everyone mug as they please.

we have a bunch of old ones but never bother to bring them. glad to know we can reactivate the water park mugs....that's worth a spot in the luggage.

on the green aspect....maybe they could have a turn in program. i have a couple of ratty one. turn in an old cup and buy a new one at a discount.

The souvenior beer stein is $11.50 and comes with your first mug of beer. You can then use that souvenior stein for refills, but the cost of the refill is the same as the cost of a "new" beer $7.00. So it's not a refillable mug in the true sense of the word, they will simply fill your stein instead of their plastic cup, but the cost is the same for either one. So, yes, he could bring it along if he wants to cart it around all day, but it's not going to save him any money over buying a beer without the mug. And other places that sell beer (or even soda) won't refill his stein.....he'll get a cup like everyone else and have to pour it in his stein himself, lol.

Aribelle answered the OP question in post 7 of this thread.

This has basically turned into a debate about mug threads. Rather than continue to rehash an old argument over and over again, I'm going to close this thread now.
