Refillable Mug

You are so right!! If others would simply answer the question, without condemning others who have differing opinions here, the DIS boards would be a much nicer place to be while posting to this type thread.
I fully understand Disney's 'policy' on reusing mugs, on 'pool hopping', on 'saving pool chaises'. They have a policy in place. BUT.....for the most part, it would seem that that policy is there 'just in case' Disney needs to invoke it, when pushed to the wall. Sure, the lifeguards will check IDs at the various pools from time to time, but not enough to prevent non-resort guests from using those pools. Even at SAB at BC, I see swimmers in the water all the time, without wrist bands.
Same thing with the refilable mugs. Is it 'legal' to reuse those mugs on subsequent visits? No, not technically, at least according to the wording on each mug. But, if you ask the CMs in the food court areas, if it's okay to reunse your mug, they will tell you yes, go right ahead. I really think that Disney jus doesn't care. If they were to see a sizable drop in the sales of the mugs, with resort capacity the same, then yes, I think they would do something. But, if it's only about 15% of the guests reusing their mugs, then no, Disney isn't going to care.
The ones we should be focusing on are those who are filling non-Disney containers at the beverage stations! They paid Disney nothing for their container....at least Disney got money from those who reuse their Disney resort mugs.

But...'stealing', 'criminal', 'not moral'?? Pretty strong wording here. It's just not worth getting all worked up over...at least not for me. Now, don't get me started on those non-BW guests who are taking up space in the chaises at the Luna Pool...that will drive you nuts. OR the people who put a towel on their chaise of choice first thing in the morning and return after lunch to swim....and sit right at the pool in that saved chaise. Those are things that directly impact other guests...reusing mugs really doesn't impact anyone else.

FACT: Reusing mugs does impact every other person that buys them. When Disney sets the prices for these mugs, they take into account the people that will reuse them even though it is against Disney's rules. This then pushes the price up of every mug they sell, because they want to make sure they still make a profit to pay their employees that sell you the mug, etc. Think of the mug selling as a business person would think of it, and take the morals out of it. Then you will see what I mean.

This is a fact, not a judgement.

FACT: The Disney rule is that they sell the mug for unlimited use for the length of your stay.

This is a fact, not a judgement.

FACT: Each person may use these mugs as they see fit, without the likely hood of Disney punishing or chastising the user.

This is a fact, not a judgement.

The End. :thumbsup2

Do you guys feel better? You bullied someone right out of the site? Hey those of you who are so morally above others who would never teach your kids to steal do you also teach them not to bully?? Wow...My favorite comment was the I was raised morally but that's just me you do what you want type of comments...GIVE ME A BREAK! And I have to say that if someone is getting their refill and dumping it in a water bottle or such might be because the drink cup is rediculously small and they might want it in line while they wait for a bus and don't want something that will leak, and the drink cups do...There is nothing wrong with that! Think about it it's not like soda is going to stay good too long in the Florida heat. I just think you are above these kindof petty putdowns. To totally demean someone over soda just to make yourself look like a moral superior should make you question that superiority in the first place... by the way I was in the World last week and yes I bought my cups so I hope I am fine in the soda cup police....

I truely hope anyone who is new to this site who just came looking for simple answers will not be driven away. This really is a terrific place for answers and for the most part people do control themselves.

I
I am so done with this site..thanks, it was fun while I was here for a few days but I don't need to be berated on a Disney forum site..

Shortchange,
I am sorry if you felt that I offended or berated you, but as you can see this is a sensitive issue. You have to keep in mind that members of this site are "Disney" people! As I am sure you are. We tend to or want to believe in the Disney "Magic". We are honest and play fair, because that is the way things should be. Not just at WDW, but everywhere. We are both from NJ. We see corruption, mismanagement and dishonesty everyday. Here it is overwhelming...at WDW it is not. There we are allowed to let our guard down...there we can be the "good" people that we cannot always be at home.
You also have to understand that on these boards, once the conversation has grown to over 10 or so replys, we are no longer talking to YOU, we are directing our comments at everyone who has posted before us.
Again, I am sorry...
One more thing. All the comments on this topic are from me, Doug, not my DW Heidi!

Just ask yourself -- "What Would Mickey Do??"

That's why the question should be answered and then move on and harsh opinions should not be given over e-mail because things get misinterpreted but the way the thread went, I wasn't misinterpreting anything. I was basically attacked and called a thief, that I have no morals, I wasn't brought up correctly. There's a fine line in the definition of the word "stealing". Plus, I never ACTUALLY did anything, I haven't even gone yet. :sad2:

Talk to the person who robbed my BIL and his family of their camcorder with all their memories on it in EPCOT and didn't even have the decency to take the camcorder and not leave the tape with all their memories on it..talk to the maid who robbed my SIL of her money..now those are people raised with no morals or decency. I've never once in my life stolen anything or done anything considered "wrong" in WDW and don't intend to. I'm actually one of those people who think that waiting in line is part of the Disney experience and don't think there should be such a thing as FastPass and I don't like having to make my dining reservations 6 months in advance and have to plan around that. Sorry, to me this whole mug issue and the issue of "stolen" soda and how it impacts everyone is just stupid and crazy. There are a few other things I'd like to say right now but I don't want to stoop to the other's levels. My husband works in Newark in law enforcement and I know all about corruption and thievery so don't talk to me about corruption and if you equate that kind of corruption with this mug issue, there's definitely something wrong there. It's just WDW people! I'm a Disney geek myself, but hello!

I really don't want to leave this site, but I find this all hysterical..:headache:

You're right. These threads often take a ridiculous turn, exactly as this one has.

When someone posted “I guess I just have more morals than to do that.”, there was a clear implication that anyone who would dare to do otherwise wasn’t of the same moral caliber as they believed themselves to be. Most of us understand perfectly why you were offended.

There will always be certain posters on some topics who consider themselves to be unofficial members of the morality police. I have been guilty of doing exactly the same thing on other topics. This just isn’t a hot button topic for me. If you see me acting this ridiculous on a thread about my hot button topic, please feel free to call me out. ;)

I don't think anyone truly believes you're a theif just for asking about the mugs.

The issue is that many people have this "so what" attitude towards "minor" stealing like re-using mugs, if indeed the mugs are advertized as "during this trip only."

Where do people draw the line at what's stealing and what's not? Who says that if you're willing to do that, you're going to just stop at the mugs?

I guess the point here is that people get upset when they're out there honestly spending the money that you, by law, are supposed to spend, while others are not.

I think the biggest reason for some of the unfairly mean replies, is the way you phrased the question. You didn't ask "do you guys think it's ok to re-use the mugs". You specifically said:

I was actually thinking of bringing my old POFQ mugs to use and see what happens..what can they do? Just tell me no..
That comment right there implies that you knew it was wrong, but that the consequences would be so minimal that you don't care. It seems you don't care about whether or not it's right, you only care about whether or not you're going to get in trouble.

That's the kind of things, whether you intended it or not, that will get people riled up. If I was a smoker, for example, would I expect people to be nice and laugh if I said "I'm going to smoke at the Magic Kingdom when I'm in line, what can they do?" or "I'm going to cut in line, what can they do?"

I realize you probably didn't intend it to sound that bad, but when someone suggests a way to cheat the system, and rather than asking if it's "ok" they ask "what can they do" (meaning to me - "what's the worst that can happen to me?") then they're probably willing to go even farther as long as they don't get caught.

Where do you draw the line, is the point. Do you draw the line at only things you could get caught for? Is it ok to throw garbage out your window becuase you probably won't get caught? Is it ok to run a red light when there's no cops around becuase you probably won't get caught?

And again, I'm not implying that this is how YOU think, or that anyone else is blaming you of being that kind of person, but when you phrase things a certain way, it's somehwhat easier for people to mis-interpret what you say. I also think many of the harsher comments aren't directly aimed at you - people just happened to chime in on their experiences of things they've seen or heard people say and are upset about that.

I think the reason the waterparks use the barcode is because they have many repeat, local visitors. I don't think the resorts have as many repeat visitors; at least not at the same frequency as the water parks.

Do you really think there is widespread Disney mug abuse? Probably not. I never notice people using old mugs but then I'm never looking. If there was, they'd go the barcode route. If you're wondering if you can reuse your mug, ask at the resort.

If you reuse mugs from previous trips, you are simply breaking the rules. All refillable mugs are ment to expire upon departure of that stay. If you choose to do this, you are responsible for the price increases. if Disney gives you unlimited refills, how are they supose to make a profit if you don't buy the cup each time? lets face it, Disney is a business and they need to make money

Well I've been thinking. After numeous trips to the Poly I have accumulated over 45 Poly mugs. Yes, that's right! That is only for the Poly. I also have mugs from the WL (6), CR (3), and CBR (8). I buy them for myself, DD, and mom. I gave DD quite a few to play with in her kitchen set and playhouse. I tossed some in the trash over the years. I now have the 2007 mug and guess what. I am bringing those babies back to the Poly when I go next week! Is it wrong. You betcha. Do I care? Nope! I'm tired of buying mugs every time I go when I'd rather just pay for and get a sticker. It is a total waste and space to keep buying them. Every time I go there I tell them please get the sticker system so I don't have to buy yet another mug. So until then, I will be sinking into the realm of evil mug reusers. Cheers!

I went to Disney in May and stayed at All Star Music and purchased a mug. I am going again in Oct and staying at All star sports. Are the mugs different? I would like to start a collection for my daughter. Thanks

No, all the mugs have the same "Year of a Million Dreams" design now.

See, guests reusing mugs is such a HUGE deal for Disney that not only have they made mugs the same through all the resorts (but CSR), they also have not bothered to change the design from last year's.

I don't want to get hate mail, especially because we actually like our Disney mugs and enjoy collecting a new one each trip. But I was told many years ago that you could bring them back, and I didn't question it for this reason. At Chuck E. Cheese (by us anyway), if you buy the collector cup, you can bring it back anytime you come (they tell you when you buy it). I have been using the same CEC cup for years, I only replace them when they get yucky. When I order they say do you need any drinks and I say no I have my cups and they say OK. So, for those 2 reasons I really didn't know that it "wasn't allowed" and I assume many of the people at Disney also do not. I only joined DIS a few weeks ago (or I would not have known), and actually only clicked on the thread thinking I might see a glimpse of what the new mug looked like. I guess if it says for the legnth of stay then that is the rule, but at least come CMs are reorting it differently. I have never noticed the "fine print" if you will, I guess I just grab the mug when we get there because it is a nice souvineer and I want to start using it right away.
Anyway, yes, the people who are filling water bottles etc are wrong, and they know it. And maybe the others are too, but they may not realize it.
I won't be reading on as it is not a thread I find interesting, useful or entretaining, so if you want to reply feel free but I won't see it so I won't be responding back. I want to spend the little bit of free time I have on nice topics. Have a MAGICAL day......

REFILLABLE MUG RULE BREAKERS ANONYMOUS

(Also known as RMRBA)

Hi..... my name is Dave, and I am a refillable mug rule abuser.

The one I just purchased at All Star Music was a skinny one that says Where Dreams come True. I have stayed at the POP and it was a fatter one. Has anyone stayed at the All Star to know if you can purchase a different one.

My view is this...its stealing. You can rationalize it. You can convince yourself that "if Disney doesn't care, than why should I". But, its stealing. Now, Disney also understands that if you are willing to steal soda, you are also willing to make a huge scene if a CM told you that you couldn't reuse your mug! Disney is NOT going to potentially ruin a room full of lunches to stop you. So, if that is you, than you have nothing to fear. Refill, but please don't call it anything else but stealing.
Personally, I will not encourage or teach my young son that stealing is anything but wrong. But you can do as you will.
So, what should you do...go every year and buy new mugs. When you get home, throw "last years mug" in the recycling bin and enjoy the new ones. BTW, I am drinking coffee out of "last years" YOMD mug as I write this!;)
Finally, if the $12.00 is too great of an expense for you to incur, you may want to find a a less expensive vacation!:)

Ouch! Really the only people who have the right to judge other people are those who have never, ever done anything wrong themselves. I don't count myself as one of those people. Please give your opinions on various topics but be careful about condemning individuals for stealing.

Okay, so if $12 isn't stealing and $275 is stealing, what's the break point? $274? $13? I'd really like to know.
