Refillable Mug

I actually saw this happen last year while staying at POR. I was amazed while watching the father ( I guess) fill one Disney mug then go back to the table and empty it into a big styrofoam cup--he then went back to the drink station and did that three more times. My thought was that I was glad I was fortunate enough not to have to do that.

I fail to see the issue here. The father was using a refillable mug so he has unlimited refills. I am glad I am fortunate enough to not be a nosey person and watch what other people do at the drink station.

I don't reuse my mugs. We purchase new mugs every time we return if we intend to refill while we are visiting.

Having said that-

Something I would like to see here on the Dis would be some of the same people expressing anger and judgmental comments possibly take a different tone. Unfortunately the second you start referring to people as dishonest, rude, thieves etc etc you start to cross your own line of "morality" and your message gets lost.

If you want people to do the right thing I'd suggest simply answering the question that has been asked the best we we can. Give them the correct information as it avaliable. Then at least they will know the rule. It's not really up to people on this board to try and enforce Disney polices. And frankly it's more offensive to see everyone come out of the woodwork telling others how terrible they are for asking a question about a simple subject.

In this case, "according to Disney when you purchase the mugs they are only for the current visit you purchase them for" would be all that needs to be said.

Coming down on people, calling them names, making references to their morals etc is far worse then bringing back a plastic mug for some pop. Its rude and on some levels breaks the basic rules here on the DIS. So now we're at a catch 22. Someone expressing anger over someone breaking rules somewhere else does it by breaking rules here.

3. NO FIGHTING/SARCASM: While we'd like to think that a Disney fan site is always lighthearted, there are times when there are disagreements. Let's face it, there are certain topics that can transform any of us into a raging "Donald Duck." When you sense this is happening, we ask that you step away from the discussion before it escalates into a fight. Just like Mom always said about fighting, we don't care who started the argument and we don't want it on the DIS. (Okay, she didn't say the part about the DIS, but you know what we mean.) No attacking others and no sarcasm please. Either will result in an infraction.

Thank you nicely said.

When my husband and I purchased our first mug it was at Dixie Landings(quite awhile ago) and it did stated at the time refillable for all return trips to Disney World and all resorts. I do have the brochure dvertising this. So if I hadn't found this forum I wouldn't have known that they aren't reusable
anymore.
With that said now that I do know the policy has changed I would not take it back we will buy a new one when we go in Dec.
But I will not judge others who do for that reason.
I personally think it is a good deal that for $12 we will be able to get drinks for 9 days.
Yep, those are the ones we have...my favorite mugs of all of 'em to tell you the truth. I have not brought them back, although I am entitled to, simply because I don't want to endure the stares of the 'mug police'...so, if I do bring back a mug, it's a YOMDs style...that way it looks like the other, current mugs.
Does it bother me to see others reusing mugs? No, not a bit. That's their business. It does bother me to see non-Disney mugs in use though.

If you do indeed have the brochure stating this, by all means, can you post an image of it? Many people swear they were told unlimited for life, and others swear that Disney never said it. I don't think anyone has ever claimed to have proof of this before. Thx!!

I'm there to enjoy the magic of Disney.
I do enjoy people watching when we are on vacation but not because they are or are not using the refillable mug correctly.
I will enjoy watching people that when they see Disney their eyes light up or the child(even the adult kind) when they meet Mickey or any other character.

I just want to add a BIG thank you to the DIS posters for letting us know of the new policy because I would hate for anyone to have judged us.
I want to come here and ask questions without the fear of being chastised.

Concerning the brochure,I will look for it and post it. It is in a box with my other momento's from past vacations.

Thanks guys..I'm beginning to get my faith back in this site. :lovestruc

I'm the same way..I go to Disney to enjoy Disney..I don't people watch and say, oh, look at that one, he's doing this, that, the other thing, that's not right..etc. To each his own.

I've only been a member a few days and have already posted alot of answers to people's questions. I enjoy sharing my Disney knowledge since I've been there so many times over the years.

I hope we can put this to rest now..:flower3: I'm throwing up my white flag, I surrender..

My view is this...its stealing. You can rationalize it. You can convince yourself that "if Disney doesn't care, than why should I". But, its stealing. Now, Disney also understands that if you are willing to steal soda, you are also willing to make a huge scene if a CM told you that you couldn't reuse your mug! Disney is NOT going to potentially ruin a room full of lunches to stop you. So, if that is you, than you have nothing to fear. Refill, but please don't call it anything else but stealing.
Personally, I will not encourage or teach my young son that stealing is anything but wrong. But you can do as you will.
So, what should you do...go every year and buy new mugs. When you get home, throw "last years mug" in the recycling bin and enjoy the new ones. BTW, I am drinking coffee out of "last years" YOMD mug as I write this!;)
Finally, if the $12.00 is too great of an expense for you to incur, you may want to find a a less expensive vacation!:)

We bought two mugs for our family of five. We shared the drinks but didn't pour into another cup (except for the two yr olds sippy cup and that was watered down pink lemonade). Is that stealing? I don't think so. I never saw a sign that said "No sharing drinks. Each family member must have their own" But we did get our $ worth out of those cups. Now we are home and my children love to drink out of those cups. Brings back Disney memories.

As someone has already said...Disney's policy is the mug is refillable for your length of stay and that's it. The next time you go you are expected to buy another one if you want the refill. Now what you do with that is your business.

Disney bends the rules sometimes too and probably won't say anything. We experienced something like this years back. We got to Disney a lot earlier then expected so booked a night's stay at ASM without tickets or anything just a room. When we told the lady we had six people she told us "I didn't hear that...you have 4 people?" and winked. She whispered how it would be crazy to spend money on 2 rooms for just one night when we were going to have 2 rooms at POR for the next 7 days after. It was very generous of that CM. She even made sure there were extra blankets and pillows sent to our room.

All in all, I place no judgement on people who bring back mugs to use. It's their choice and if someone says anything to them then it's on them. Personally I would buy new but that's just me...and I like having lots of mugs from Disney!!

We will probably do that when we go. We are a family of 3 and we will buy one for us (me and the DH) and then 1 for my son. I dont think there is anything wrong with sharing a drink at all. Heck we will probably even share meals!

Dont the mugs this year look the same as last year only they say 2008 on them now?? I mean I bet you there are people that were there last year bringing those back and using them. I am not saying I am going too ( I dont feel like sticking them in my suitcase and then running the risk of them breaking). But I mean dont you think disney knows that people are prolly doing this?? I dont know, just thought I would say something! I might as well just get a new one...I like them anyway and I wouldnt mind having another!!

You know, it would be easy to just respond to a simple question with "this is Disney's rule" on the situation.

But then someone else will respond "but I did this" regarding the same rule. Thus, the beginning of the downward spiral.

Someone posted what Disney's policy regarding refillable mugs is on the 7th post on this thread. It should have been locked at that point.

I never said the $12 for each mug was too much of an expense. AND, if you've seen my other posts on this subject, I said, I'm spending over $6000 for this vacation and I am not one to complain about anything price wise with Disney. I think I get my money's worth on EVERY vacation. I only said I was thinking of bringing the mugs back and trying to use them. But, even before I posted a QUESTION about SOMETHING ELSE I was thinking of just leaving them home and just buying new ones but for the amount of time we spend at the food court, I don't think it will be worth it for us. And, if I did bring them back with me and someone approached me and said, you can't do that, I wouldn't cause a scene or scream or anything. I'd just say ok and that would be that. I never knew this was such a touchy subject. I'm sure there are alot more rules broken in Disney..I don't look at it as stealing or immoral but that's just me..plus I know the definition of stealing so please don't insult my intelligence and please don't say I wasn't raised with morals because I was.

Talk to my SIL who had her room robbed of $275 while in Disney's Vero Beach by one of the maids and then we can talk about real STEALING.

I am so done with this site..thanks, it was fun while I was here for a few days but I don't need to be berated on a Disney forum site..

Technically, it is stealing. You paid for that mug for that week.

Technically - you might be wrong.

Many of still have the mugs that were 'good forever'. And forever includes now.

Shortchange, I understand why you want to leave the site. I have read your posts and I don't see one sentence where you asked to be judged!!! When I go to Disney, other than people blatently pushing in front of me in the lines, I really could care less what other people do with their refillable mugs or anything they try to get away with. Everyone has their own agenda and mine is having fun and enjoying myself and my family's time in Disney! Honestly, when someone has gotten in front of me in the line, I honestly didn't even say anything to them. I am not there to fight with people or ruin my vacation, and I certainly will not let anyone else's actions ruin mine. I am doing a split stay in December and was wondering if I need to purhcase 2 mugs during my stay ( if that is the rule) or if I can use one for both resorts. Honestly, I won't purchase seperate ones even if that is the rule but if someone dared to say anything to me about it ( another guest) I would simply ignore them. I understand you were asking for information and some (not all) decided to throw the morality book on the subject, but that was not what you were asking for. Sorry you were made to feel so bad to the point that you want to leave and I hope you reconsider, even just for the wealth of information that can be found on here. I had only once or twice made an innocent comment or question and have felt berated by one or two comments that was completely unnecessary. Most though have been nice and helpful I must say. Whatever you decide to do about the board, I hope any of your upcoming trips have great weather and great fun and lots of refills in whatever mug you choose!!! :wizard:

Since all the Resorts except for Coronado Springs are selling the Year Of A Million Dreams logo mugs, you won't need to purchase new mugs at the 2nd Resort you stay at.

The reason I mention Coronado Springs is because they are the only Hotel on property which still sells their Resort logo mug and the reasons is their dining locations are not owned by WDW.

I re-use my mug, its still the same mug they sell now anyway. They even told me when I got it that you can re-use it whenever I'm returning to stay at the resort, but it can only be used at the resorts. I've also seen some say to other guests when they ask that its good for the year. I‘m another who bought one of those fat-large mugs too and was told they are good "forever" or other staff would say "for life". And like others have said, it still is forever.

Everyone says something different to you and because of that guests will be going about the mug "thing" differently. You have to expect that.

I see people using their mugs still from 10 years ago and see managers right there and they dont care.

When the mugs actually change, then I usually buy a new one, especially when the mug starts to show wear, then its not even healthy to drink out of it anymore.

I get a lot more value out of what I pay for my vacation than the spit's worth of soda I can fit in a 12 dollar mug from a food court that is out of my way no matter how you slice it. I solve this problem by not buying a mug, instead of not going to Disney World.
