refillable mug question

This has probably been addressed before, but how do the refillable mugs work. I know you buy them at the resort (around $10????) and refills are free.
But refills from where???

Do you just get free refills at the food courts or do they refill them free at the parks too?

Refillable mugs are only usable at the resort where you bought them. Each mug for each resort is different and they are not for reuse outside your resort.

The cost is approx. $8-$9. They cannot be used at another resort - EXCEPT if you have a mug from a "sister" resort - ie: you can use the All Star mugs at any All Stars resort.
At the AS, you refill them at the food courts, at BC they are refilled at Beaches and Cream - at some of the other resorts, I do not know (Poly, etc.) but it is a similar system - usually, if the resort has NO food court, it is refilled at the casual type restaurant of that resort. I hope I am making my point clearly for you.
Also, the mugs are good for LIFE - there have been some posters who have disagreed with that statement but we have reused our mugs since we got them. I have specifically inquired about the policy on more than one occasion and the answer is always the same - they are good for life at that resort (unless, as I noted earlier, you got the mug at a "sister" property and then they are good at the sister properties as well).
The mugs cannot be refilled in the parks. They are a nice souvenir and well worth the cost, I think.

AND...you can use them year after year at the same resort. Last year we went to AS Sports and this year AS Movies. We used our AS Sports mugs from last year. They look totally different from the mugs last year but we saw other people using old ones too. We saved a ton not having to rebuy mugs this year.

We've used our All-Star mugs for years at any of the All-Stars. Some of ours even are 25th anniversary editions. One of the cashiers even comment that she liked the style of our mugs better than the new ones. They can not be used in the parks. I have seen people using mugs from more expensive resorts in the cheaper resorts food courts but not many and never the other way around. I guess no one at the All Stars will question a GF mug.

We stayed at the all stars sports and carried our mugs to the parks, basically to keep the free ice in. Since we didn't have a stroller or back pack we just slid the handle throught the belt on the fanny packs. Most of the restaurants we went to offered to fill them and save us the cost of another soda to take with us. If not just get a refill before leaving and dump it into your mug. In stead of drinking water, we chewed on ice which is free anywhere you ask for it.
We are staying at the Music this year and haven't even thought about bringing our mugs back, but that would save us $20 . So just might do it.

Not all resorts offer a free refill--OKW does not--and some others do not, but they are usually the reduced rate and not full price.

One other tip I have is to take them with you to the water parks. You cannot use them there. However, the ones at the water parks are really big. Buy one for your whole group, fill it up and then pour contents into your smaller ones. The kids usually love going to get it refilled several times.

Each time we go to a WDW resort, we buy two mugs for the kids. I think we have 4 ASMovies mugs so I wont need to buy any this trip. We bring our All Star mugs back each time we go and I think we've used them on at least 4 trips which is VERY cost efficient. The mugs also make great souveniers!

We bought 4 mugs at PO-R (which are also refillable at PO-FQ), since we would walk to the main bus depot anyway, we would just stop in and fill our mugs and then on the way back same thing, we'd get off at the main depot and fill our cups and head back for a swim. It saved us a ton in the long run.

Our refillable mug from Typhoon Lagoon was the same size as our resort mugs.

We noticed that several people used different mugs at PO-R and no one said a word. Also, it was neat to see the DixieLandings Mugs too, since it is no longer DxL...sniff, sniff
