Refillable Mug Poll

How often do you buy refillable mugs?

  • Every trip -- that's the rule

  • When the design changes

  • Never -- I have been using the same mug for years (I know you're out there!)

  • When the mood strikes me and I like the new design

  • I just drink from the soda fountain -- no mug for me!

  • Other

We bought a mug on our last trip...mind you it was our first trip...but we will definitely buy another...my husband likes to have water to drink through the night so if he had bought a bottle of water every night it probably would have cost almost the same...this way we could also have something to drink whenever we wanted and wouldn't have to wait in line to pay...

We buy new ones. Last year when Dh and I went alone was the first time we got them and they sooo served their purpose. The kids can't wait to get theirs next trip cause mommy and daddy don't share theirs. They are our travel coffee mugs lol

Does anyone know how much they hold (ml)?

You can put an entire can of soda on the mugs with a little ice.

I wish they'd go back to resort specific mugs, my WL mugs are showing their age and we had a CBR mug death last year.

We always by the refillable Mugs it just tradition for us. They pay for themselves over and over again during our visits. They make great souviners and a great all around mug to have. Can't wait to do it again in 2010!!

Well now I'm really bummed. It's so sad to think that 54% ( so far ) of everyone polled think that the rules don't apply to them. :sad2:

In fairness -- 9.23 % of that number you quoted answered "Other" -- which might include things like "I don't stay at Disney Resorts" / "I don't even bother with refillable anything" and "I hate polls". :)

And on the bright side.. 45 % of people DO think the rules matter.

In fairness to the rest of the people, Disney created this mess by selling a series of mugs in the late nineties which were clearly noted as "lifetime refillable".

Once they opened that can of worms, they brought this mess on themselves. And on top of that, if Disney REALLY cared about this - they would enforce this somehow. They have the technology , they could pull it off. An ideal solution would be an RFID chip embedded in the mug. When activated, the RFID enables soda purchases for up to 30 days. On future trips, the RFID wouldn't activate the soda dispenser so you'd either have to reactivate your mug or buy a new one.

Just my opinion... and of course.. I do not care what people do with their refillable mugs. Personally, I can't be bothered to pack and lug the darned things TO Orlando in the first place. Too much trouble.

I do know that hundreds of minutes as year on the DIS are spent arguing about what amounts to 30 cents worth of soda. ;)

Our last trip we did not get it because we had the DDP and got alot of drinks that way. Other than that, we usually get one. They make nice souvneirs once you get home.

Although I've been going to Disney for years I've really only stayed on property once and that was last Sept. I couldn't wait to buy one for me and hubby but when we looked at how much they hold we didn't think it was a real value. We brought our own water bottles and used Kool Aid singels and were quite happy.

Although we're staying offsite again(renting a vaca home) this year however I'm thinking of buying a refillable mug for Typhoon Lagon. That seems to be a good deal for the day for our entire family.

When the design changes because I like to collect the cups. Since we're DVC we really don't use the mug unless it is the trip I purchased it, I just like them for my coffee at home.

:confused3 Well said CanadianGuy! I was a follow the rules person (as a result, the mugs are falling out of my cabnet at home :rotfl: ) Then when I got there this month, I was talking to my cm friend, who looked at me like I had three heads when I said I had to buy a new mug cause I don't break the rules. He said first that I will notice that they have changed the mugs to be generic so you can use them at any resort and second they are instructed not to stop people from filling up on old mugs. I told him about the boards and how you will get flammed for that kind of talk and he resumed to looking at me like I had three heads! :rotfl2:

I think you are right about the problem they created for themselves. It even leaves me confused

I picked "when the mood strikes me and I like the new design", but I picked that meaning that when we buy the mug we use the mug - otherwise we don't bother with the soda fountain or we just buy a single soda. We don't take soda without paying for it, so it isn't about not following rules. I think maybe others (like me) just follow a different plan and you didn't account for that in the choices.

I have three old DxL's mugs that were sold as 'free refills forever' back in the 90's..never brought them back. I have 3 POR mugs that state they were good for refills at the resort they were purchased for the stay they were purchased during. Also have some from...BW, BC, POP, Polynesian, ASMusic, TL and 2 of the new generic ones that say they are good for free refills at the beverage stations.
Do I take them back with me? Only twice..both times at POP. I was staying for one night the first time and the second time I was there for two nights only.
But, with the new generic ones, I think Disney has opened a can of worms. I have a feeling that they don't particularly care that we bring them back.

Since my poll miraculously came back to life, I'll chime in again. I re-used mugs for the first time on my trip in january. It was fine, but it was kind of a pain to pack the mugs for the trip down. I think "ll probably buy new mugs on my next trip, just to save having to drag them down there! Interesting comments from the CM. It cracks me up that some of the things that are so sacred here on the DIS are non-issues to Disney!! :rotfl:

Now that they are included on the deluxe and higher plan, why wouldn't you get a new one every time that you go? I don't know that I would do the regular dining plan with the changes any more (except maybe with free dining), but the deluxe and higher I would definitely consider.

Between Sept 18 and Sept 30, we will be staying at WDW with DDXDP with three spilt stays. That means we will have 3 mugs per person to pack at the end of our trip. That's a lot of mugs! We are staying at the BC and AK so we won't be far from the drink stations at either. I would rather just have 1 mug for the entire stay if that was possible. I usually don't get the mug, but my DSis does. I don't drink coffee only diet coke and that is from a bottle. I don't like to carry anything around the park. I personally don't care if someone reuses their mug from previous trips. To each their own!
