Are there any referral bonuses? I know a while back they were offering a referral bonus, but haven't heard anything about it lately.

Yes I believe there are, but it depends upon the state you live in. The person who referred me to my guide in May go a referral bonus for it. But I have seen some posts that indicate that referral bonuses are illegal in some states.

There is a current referral program, if you live in a qualifying state. On the member web site, look at the menu across the top. Under "Member Privileges" you'll see a link to "Refer a Friend."

The web site doesn't specifically say how much the award is (I think it varies based on how many referrals you've done in the same year), but I seem to recall a recent mailing that said something about $50 (which can be applied as a credit to your dues or as Disney Dollars). A few months after your referral makes their purchase, you'll receive a certificate that indicates the rewards that are available to you.

The link I mention above has an option to print a slip of paper to give to friends/family that tells them how to contact a guide, and lists your name for the referral. You can also send your friends and family directly to the dvcfriends.com web site. On the second page of this web site, there's a question that asks, "Were you referred by another DVC Member?" Make sure they say yes to this, and then enter your name.

"Eligible State" is any state that permits rewarding Members for their participation in the Program. Current eligible States are: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Puerto Rico also is an eligible jurisdiction. DVD reserves the right to add or remove Eligible States as business and legal circumstances allow.

Yes there is. Luckily, I live in a state where you can collect. A friend of mine referred me and around 6 weeks later I got something from DVC asking if I would like Disney Dollars, $200 towards dues or $200 towards more points. I then sent it back and I believe the Disney Dollars (what I chose) were FedExed, but I wasn't home to sign for them today. You can get up to 5 referral bonus in a calender year..up to $1,000 I believe.

Does the referral bonus only count towards full sales through Disney? If I told someone about DVC and its benefits, and I even took them to Disney to stay in one of the resorts, but they bought resale because they did not need to have 160 points. Does this still count has a referral?

Nope.

The first referral is $200 towards Disney Dollars, dues, or more points. I believe you can also donate it to a charity for children with life threatening illnesses to visit WDW. The amount increases by the number of referrals you have each year. Here's how it goes:

Referral 1 $200
Referral 2 $350
Referral 3 $500
Referral 4 $750
Referral 5 $1,000

So after two referrals that purchase and close in the same year, the member would receive $550 total for the year. Some states only allow bonuses up to a certain amount. Illinois only allows up to $1,000 total each year.

I just had 2 people use me as a refferal and buy DVC this week. I live in PA, does that mean we wont get any kind of refferal bonus or recognition?

That's correct. Many states have laws on the books which prohibit its residents from receiving any sort of reward related to a timeshare purchase. It's a PA limitation, not DVC. Thank your lawmakers for trying to protect folks from those horrible timeshare salespeople.

Does anyone know when the list of eligible states was updated? The reason I ask is because WA state was never on the list before -- but it is now. Yippee...I just need to find someone to use me as a referral!!!

I'm not sure when the list was updated on the website. But I took that directly off the site on the 9th. For those of you referring people to DVC, be sure to inform them that they have to mention that you are referring them with the first call or visit with DVC. If they mention it even on the second call, it won't get you a referral reward.

I believe it also has to be someone completely new to DVC...meaning if the person you are referring ever talked to a guide or toured in the past (no matter how long ago) they would already have record of it and it would not qualify for the bonus.

That's absolutely right!

Yep. and even if you refer, make sure they also mention it. We referred some friends who then went and purchased, but assumed they were in the system from our referral. Well, we didn't get any credit at all for it even though we referred them before they went down.
