Well for once we are showing our "Britishness" in all its glory.

I have been visiting the states since 96 and have been in all the aforementioned establishments in one form or another and believe it or not its no different to the uk! It all depends on the mood of the staff/chef what quality of food you get on any particular day.

As a holidaymaker i dont really concern myself with what my neighbour is eating but it seems that is a hobby of certain people on here. Who gives a !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can you say I would never condem my kids to ponderosa and then in the next breath say golden coral was great? Hypocritical if you ask me.

Ask any American what they think of British chains of a morning and I am sure you will get the same reply.

For once forget your British and live and let live. no wonder people have a low opinion of us

ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont think stating you dislike a certain establishment is unreasonable. This is a discussion board where everybody is going to have different opinions. Not entirely sure what your post is trying to say?? That we shouldnt air our own views? Wouldnt be much of a discussion board then, would it??!!!

I have to say I agree with Allie.
Not everyone like's the same things, Personally its nice to hear opinions and views on certain things, but Thats all they are, doesnt mean we all have to agree?

I quite like Ponderosa for breakfast (& it can be healthy!) but I also think it's cheap & tacky (not always a bad thing while on holiday)!
I don't quite see how a discussion about it though shows our "BRITISHNESS".
Sorry "yourwelcome"- am I missing your point here??

Couldn't agree more with the above posters...buffets are not my cup of tea, but i still think people should be forewarned that they are not always great.
Can't really see the link to Britishness either!!
Agree with you too Sevans, a bit of tackiness does no harm on holiday!! (as long as it isn't on the floor!):p

As a 1st time visitor to Orlando, I welcome all posts on all subjects, negative or positive, I can then make a decision on the facts, tried and tested by someone who's been there and done it. (I shall not now be going Ponderosa) But I do wish people wouldn't take each other to task for their opinions because that's all people are expressing, their opinions.
Oooops am I doing it now!

OK guys here goes. I am sorry I upset a few of you with my post and I suppose you are right. I had a few beers and got on my high horse. I suppose the point I was trying to make was you can eat in a "ponderosa" at breakfast on international drive and the food/service is excellent and then in the evening eat in the "ponderosa" on the 192 and get the opposite. I just felt it was a bit unfair to judge a complete chain by one bad experience.

I wasn`t being disrespectful to us brits but i think we are not as good as the yanks at complaining. If they are unhappy about anything they say it out loud. We are a bit more reserved and would rather not return. Am I being fair here?

I will finish by saying sorry once again and hope you all enjoy wherever you dine.

ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the ponderosa by the Caribe Royale hotel has IMHO always been of a very good standard, for both breakfast and dinner, we tend to miss out the all you can eat for lunch as we'd never get moving again in the afternoon.

I agree - everyone is welcome to their opinion and it is useful to get other peoples experiences, but really everyone is different in what they like/dislike. yes negative posts can be useful, but I have eaten in restaurants that have received positive posts and thought 'can't see what all the fuss was about - pretty average/poor in my opinion'.

With regard to Ponderosa, like most chains it can be hit or miss - but try it at least once - if afterwards it was not to your taste!! you have not wasted a lot of money and you know first hand. What I find worse is spending a lot of money in a 'posh' restaurant and wishing I'd gone to McDonalds instead.

It's all very subjective as maxine pointed out.

I too have been to places that people have raved about and found them to be awful and I've been to places that people have said "avoid like the plague" and they've been really good.

I do take notice on what others have said but I prefer to go and make my own mind up - I'm glad that I have as I would have missed out on some fantastic meals over the years.

I also find that it often depends on which Ponderosa you eat in, as to your experience, some are much better than others. The breakfast is cheap so hey, it's not supposed to be silver service standard. I guess the place is kinda tacky, but as someone else said, I quite like it. More pancakes and syrup please!!!!!princess:

I quite like the Ponderosa. Not only are the individual restaurants different but so are the servers! Anyone been served by Tetyana on the 192 opposite Old Town? She is brilliant we had her in 2002 and then this January I heard her serving someone else and recognised her instantly!

She keeps your drink topped up, is fast at bringing the food etc and does a great job. Others in there however leave a lot to be desired. On our last day we did get Tetyana...as usual she was great and got a 25% tip for her trouble!

yourwelcome,

Like others have said this is a forum and it's here for us to express OUR opinions, you included.

You also make the point that it's " a bit unfair to judge a complete chain by one bad experience "........ does this not then apply to you writing off Turkey as "crap" based on one visit ???????? I refer to your comment on your holiday venue list. You seem to have fallen into the malaise you're accusing other folk of i.e. writing something off based on one bad experience.

Kettles and Pots come to mind.

Just a quick post to give a little support to yourwelcome.

I think the point of the post was that opinions are fine, but some of these 'opinions' are verging on being judgemental of others, which is not necessary.

For what it's worth I agree with yourwelcome's OPINION of Turkey - no thanks-.
