We are heading to WDW in 1 week. DS had a massive seizure this past Monday, and DH called 911 from his cell phone, which of course meant that the ambulance took twice as long after routing us to our local dispatcher. The EMT gave me our local dispatcher number in case (when) we need it in the future.

Does anyone have the Reedy Creek direct emergency line? I got one off their website, but I really want to be sure. We are at OKW, so that is comfortingly close. UGH. Please PM me if you don't want to post it. Thanks.

I have read into this before, especially for the first trip after my sister had a major medical emergency at home. If you are at your resort, call 911 from a resort landline. This goes directly to Reedy Creek emergencies first. This also gives an alert to WDW personally as to the location the call came from.

If you call from your cell phone, it will go to the county dispatch, but will be directed to Reedy Creek as soon as you indicate you are on WDW Property. I am not certain if the number you have would work quicker or not, but I believe they have email address or Facebook page. You could probably contact them to find out if that number would work.

I actual found the thread I think I read back in 2010 about this: http://www.disboards.com/threads/wdw-tapped-into-911.1158742/.

The quickest way if you are at your resort is to call 911 on the room phone

That will not only direct you to 911, but also give them your location.

Calling it on a cellphone, from my understanding, gives a location based on the tower that is routing your call. So, imit may not route you to the correct dispatcher to reach 911 for that area. It also won't necessarily give an accurate location.

If you are in a park, flag down a CM if you see one. That will be your most direct link for 911 and they will also be able to give an accurate location.

This is an article about the limitations of using a cell phone to call 911.
Most of the limitations would be the same whether you are calling 911 or a separate dispatch number.
I know there are procedures with 911 about how calls get into the call queue. I'm not sure how that works if you call a different number. It may be fine for a not very busy dispatch area, but may delay your call bring entered into the call queue quickly for busier areas

If you use your cell phone to call 911, immediately say: "I am at Walt Disney World, I need Reedy Creek". I've had to call 911 as a CM multiple times and I have used both my own cell phone and a park phone. If you can quickly flag down a CM, a park phone will directly connect you.

as other have said ask a CM if there is one near by if not use the phone in the room or your cell phone to call 911 and say I am at WDW

I have had 911 called for me more times then I would like while at disney ( if I had to guess maybe 10+ times and all but 1 time it was an emergency )

OP, I'm sure the advice you were given locally at home is accurate to reach your local emergency services. However, a place as big and as busy as WDW is another story; I'm going to guess Reedy Creek doesn't publish a direct-to-dispatch number. I only found 1 phone number on their website and expect it is the non-emergency line. Now, if you called it in an emergency they should handle the call appropriately and get you connected with dispatch -- but it may not be any quicker than 9-1-1 from your cell and identifying your location as WDW.

I'm going to echo others in recommending calling from a landline or get a CM if at all possible. Obviously, if neither of those are immediately available, use your cell. But call 9-1-1. You may actually waste time if you try direct-dialing a non-emergency number.

Enjoy your vacation!

The big difference from home vs wdw is that at home your still calling into the emergency dispatch center for help. Just cutting out calling 911 first and having them transfer you. So when you cal them they still able to treat it the same way and send info to medics and dispatch other first responders.

At wdw If you use the non emergency number for reedy creek they won't be expecting a emergency call on that Line not that they won't help but it be better calling 911. As they won't know where you are automatic if you call from a land line they delay alerting Disney security and cms if they need to open doors. And delay dispatching ocso deputies to the scene who be the first or second behind Disney security. Disney spends a lot on their emergency services for guests so your in good hands.

So as others said use 911 if in your resort room call from the phone. Disney alerted right away that a guest is calling 911 and security and managers and ems and ocso deputies respond right away.

It never fun to need medical help on vacation but Disney has your back if you need them.

Have a fun and safe trip and hope all goes well and you won't need to use reedy creek.

This is an interesting very short video about what happens when you call 911 with a cell phone and how the computer tries to locate you.
http://www.usatoday.com/videos/news/nation/2015/02/22/23841605/
So, if you are using a cellphone, it's very important to know your location because 911 may not be able to get it any other way.

As others have posted, wherever you are on Disney Property, your 911 call from a land line or called in by a CM will be going to Reedy Creek Dispatch Center.
Here's a really interesting video that shows behind the scenes at that center.

Does anyone have the Reedy Creek direct emergency line?

1) Reedy Creek = xxx-xxx-xxxx
2) Any Cell Phone 911 Call can go to one of 3 counties.
. . . this will slow down any kind of a response, sometimes as much as 5-10 minutes
. . . the call must be re-routed to Reedy Creek
. . . as mentioned, use a house phone or have a CM dial 911 for you

NOTE FROM MODERATOR - I removed the number that was posted in this reply. If it was actually the direct line to Emergency Dispatch, it should not be published unless THEY publish it. Having the number out there to call directly could interfere with 911 function in the way it is designed to operate and actually slow response time.

This is the BUSINESS contact information listed for
Reedy Creek Improvement District
1900 Hotel Plaza Blvd. Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830.

This is the BUSINESS phone listed for
Reedy Creek Emergency Services 407-560-1963

This is a link to the Reedy Creek contact page and includes an email link:
http://rcid.org/Contact.aspx

I would suggest the original poster contact Reedy Creek Fire and Rescue at their business phone, by mail or email and ask the best way to contact in an emergency.
I am sure the answer will be what was already posted - to call 911 from a house phone (land line) or have a CM contact them for you.

I am closing this thread.
