Reducing the number of park hoppers with a package

We are 19 days out from our trip and I booked park hopper plus tickets for every day we're gonna be there. My traveling buddies have requested 2 days off to 'relax'. Is it too late to get a refund on the tickets we won't be using? I booked a package thru Disney if that matters

Everyone needs the same entitlements when you book a package. At this point, it just makes more sense to leave everything the same. They could always just show up at a dinner in the park or something, they'd still have most of the day to relax and use the ticket entitlement.

When you buy a package, everyone staying together needs the same # of park days, same types of tickets. Depending on the length of your trip, the cost difference can be minimal (i.e. a 6 day ticket is really not much less than an 8 day ticket). It's kind of an all or nothing thing...either everyone changes their tickets or nobody does. There are no refunds for unused park days.

It might not be worth the $50 penalty fee to change your tickets. I ran the numbers using a check in date of May 8th

8 day park hopper ticket - $582.01
7 day park hopper ticket - $560.31 - saves $21.70 over the 8 day ticket
6 day park hopper ticket - $547.99 - saves $34.02 over the 8 day ticket, saves $12.32 over the 7 day ticket

Another thing t o consider is that Disney raised the ticket prices on March 19th, so if you purchased your package before that date, the tickets you currently have would have cost you less than the current ticket prices. Any changes to a package reservation means that they can charge the current ticket prices.

I would not try to make any changes to a package reservation booked before March 19th, especially if you are in the 30 day penalty window. And besides, your travel buddies might change their minds once they are there. ;)

I can't answer your actual question, but if I were you, I'd try to convince your traveling companions that they should just keep all the days. Even on rest days, we sometimes like to go into a park (usually Epcot) for dinner or try to score one last FP on a favorite ride. Since you wouldn't save too much money by reducing a few days, I'd just leave it as-is.

Everyone on the package needs the same tickets. Is it just a couple of your traveling buddies who want fewer days, or the whole group? If the former, not possible; if the latter, you can adjust the tickets but will incur a $50 change fee. Whether that fee is more/less than your savings will depend on how many in your party and how many days on your tickets. Longer tickets = less savings by dropping a day or two; more people in the party = more savings by dropping a day or two.

Another consideration is the number of "plus" options you have planned. If you remove some days from your tickets that will also reduce the number of plus options. For example a 7-day ticket includes 7 plus options, a 5-day ticket includes 5 plus options. Be sure you have all your plans in place and covered by the new ticket if you decide to change.

Enjoy your vacation!

If you wind up reducing your ticket days, make sure to cancel the FPs for the days you will not visit, otherwise the last 2 days are the ones cancelled, which may not correspond to your "relaxation" days. For example, if reducing from 7 to 5, your last 2 days of FPs would be cancelled for insufficient entitlements, unless you proactively cancel FPs for your relaxation days.

I do hope they change their minds and go to some parks in the evening. I like that idea, to keep our options open. Thank you everyone

I would caution you all to be very careful making this decision = since everyone in the party has to have the same entitlements if one or two decrease the number of park days everyone will have to decrease to that same number. There will also be a change penalty as mentioned upthread that may or not be more than the price of the additional day(s).

If the decision is to reduce the number of park days be sure and cancel your FP+ selections on the correct days before MDE automatically cancels them for you. Those who do want to visit the parks every day can add additional days after check in but you will have to make your FP+ selections at that time vs in advance.

Couldn't they cancel the days, then after arriving add a couple extra days to some of the tickets at the ticket booths? I know that used to be the work around for this situation.

Yes, but you can only have FPs for the number of days that you have tickets. If you lower the number of ticket days, you will get an email that you don't have enough entitlements, and FPs will be cancelled. So, if there are some visiting parks, they won't be able to rebook FPs until they are onsite and add the ticket days back. Depending on the FPs they have, they may be very difficult to get back.

I would not change anything. Tell your companions "No can do Buckeroo" and leave your package alone.

The problems with making changes at this late date have all been discussed upthread, and all of the disadvantages pointed out are all very real, but the thing that stands out to me is that once you drop the days, which may not save a darn thing, much of your planning is lost, and that is so disrespectful. If you were the appointed planner, these concerns should have been discussed with you before your plans were locked in place. Now those who wanted to be in the parks and wanted specific FP will lose them and for very little in actual savings.

We always book for the number of days we are in WDW, and if members of the group want to hang back to relax, that is fine. The benefits of booking FP etc for the majority of the group trump the few dollars saved to skip days for everyone.

Yes this was in my last sentence - but you can't have FP+ for those days until you "repurchase" the extra days loosing the 60day FP+ advantage of staying onsite.
