I love finding new uses for things that might otherwise be tossed in the garbage...find of the week that made me so tickled:

1. Packaging from curtains/sheets with zippers or snaps: my lovely grandmother bought new Sheers for her living room windows, I helped her hang them the other day and then snagged the plastice zipper pouches and brought them home to pack my baby boy's outfits in for our cruise in February, they were big enough for one outfit each plus a diaper to start the day with and sturdier than using ziploc bags!

What have you been able to put to use during your travels that helps you out in addition to Mother Nature??

What a smart idea! I've used the very large ziptop baggies to pack for trips before.... and I store them with my luggage and re-use them over and over. But they were new to start. :rolleyes2

Not travel related, but I save the cellophane sticky-seal bags that my scrapbooking page protectors come in. I use them to sort my scraps by color and to make page kits to take to crops. They hold up well and actually are clearer than ziptop bags.

I save sample sizes that I get in the mail for traveling as well. I keep a plastic tub on my closet shelf marked "travel items" and as I get them, I throw them in there and I don't have to search for them when packing for a trip. I know this isn't exactly a new brilliant idea.... oh well.

I do save the large zipper bags that comforters and blankets come in for my MIL. She crochets afghans for family and church craft fairs and they are nice for storing these. They are also nice for storing out-of-season blankets here at home.

Thanks for your nice idea!..........P

I use a LOT of ziploc bags (of all sizes) to organize and pack things when we travel. I recyle those bags throughout the year (only the ones that hold dry things, which I rinse and dry before storing...nothing greasy or "meaty", lol), so I have a huge supply of them when packing time comes around!

You know those fabric bags they package sheets in? I save them and use them for shoe bags in our luggage when we travel. A twin-size set bag with a drawstring top is just the right size for a pair of adult shoes.

Had one other thought. I don't use them very often, but I do keep fabric dryer sheets on hand.... and I will throw them into a suitcase to keep clothes smelling fresh (especially sneakers). Once you return, you can still toss them in your dryer... double use! BTW, I cut them into fourths and only use one piece when I DO use them. It still eliminates the "cling"......................P
