I was just wondering if we think that DVC will offer the very generous $399 PAP offer again later this year like last year? Anybody care to speculate? I hope so....

If I had to bet, I would say no. The last AP promo that they had was a 15 month renewal. It was a one time deal.

I agree. I doubt we see it again. There has been 3 offers regarding APs over the last few years. One was the coupons AP holders got to share with others to get 10% off of new APs (and AP holders got $25 for every AP purchased -- I racked up $350 in gift cards on that one). Then there was the 15 month AP. And lastly the reduced PAP. I've been an AP holder for 20 years and those are the only specials I remember. Of course they could do what Universal did a few years ago and offer a BOGO. When I first purchased my Universal AP it was buy a year and get 2 years use. Now that was a great offer. Doubt we ever see that one at Disney.

Omg that is a great deal re BOGO re Universal. I would die of pixie dust overload if Disney offered that. I saw they were offering 2 years for the price of one at Seaworld not long back. I regret not buying one now!

Renewal rate for the discounted PAP- can we downgrade to the standard AP? and will that be discounted?

Currently, you can switch between WDW annual pass types at renewal time and pay what ever the renewal rate is for the different pass type at the time you renew.

No because I think the offer was something that Claire worked really hard to get for us and she is gone.

I doubt it.

Promotions like that are most effective when they are not predictable. They want the impulse buy from individuals who believe it's a fabulous once-in-a-lifetime offer.

Offer the same deal two years in a row and by the 3rd year, Disney starts losing money from people who delay their purchases waiting for the offer to reappear. Then when the discount isn't offered, people end up spending the money elsewhere.

WDW dug this hole for itself in terms of the fall "free dining" promos. It has been offered so many years in a row that people delay booking their trips until the promo is announced.

I would be happy if they did a payment plan for AP's. When you are buying 4 or 5 at a time...that adds up.

I think they will offer it again and here is why. Some of us bought annual passes before the offer but more of us bought PAPs in Nov-Dec 2012. That said folks who would have purchased 10 day tickets now have PAPs and will visit at least twice this year as opposed to once per year. They will eat at Disney restaurants and spend $$$ twice now and if they don't have enough point adonitis may strike or they will use their PAPs to book a significantly discounted room. I heard from a CM that the promotion had much more uptake than they had forecast and that we should expect to see it again. I hope I'm right! ;)

Me too because it makes total sense! Thanks.

I agree. We got a lot of extra (new) perks when she took over. Haven't seen any good ones yet this year. :sad2:

The new guy was head of ABD, right? They're offering "guaranteed" day 1 pricing on ABDs for DVC members or something. I'm sorry but that's not a real perk. Realistically speaking, what is the % of the DVC population who will even take an ABD. The pricing on those trips are pretty ridiculous.

Back to your point---hope our new DVC guy doesn't just focus on ABD and we get some better ones.

I am also amazed at the ridiculous pricing of the ABD trips! Who in the world is booking those? I got a postcard in the mail a couple weeks ago about a ABD to NYC. 3 nights/4 days, 160pts PER PERSON. So for a family of 4 it would take 640pts for 3 nights in NYC? WHAT?!?!?!?!

Sorry to be OT but I choked a bit when I saw that post card and wondered who would actually book that through Disney. I agree, the ABD is not much of a "perk" to membership. If I had that many pts to blow I would rather use them for a long weekend in a GV at the new GFV ;)

Ken comes from Sports Enterprises and Downtown Disney. He took over DVC and ABD. From the member website:
You will be pleased to learn that longtime Disney leader Ken Potrock is succeeding me at Disney Vacation Club as Senior Vice President and General Manager. I can tell you that you're in great hands with Ken. He is a wonderful leader, full of creativity and passion for the Disney brand, and extremely talented. Most recently, Ken has served as the Senior Vice President of Disney Sports Enterprises and Downtown Disney in Florida. I have known him for a long time and couldn't be more delighted with his passion for the Disney brand, for innovation, and for always putting our Guests and Members first. In his new role, Ken will also have responsibility for Adventures by Disney, our family guided-tour business.

Yes that's what I feared. I hope there was no correlation lol.

Clair worked hard for us the whole time she was there, it felt like to old days when someone cared, but they sure got rid of that fast...now back to the same old, same old. Don't have much hope with this new guy>

Set up your own payment plan. Create a vacation savings account and have money automatically transferred every month, every two weeks, etc. Problem solved. Takes 15 minutes to set-up and you'll even earn interest on your own money.

LOL. The guy has had the job for 2 months. Exactly what new perks and benefits did Claire introduce in her first couple of months?

Nothing moves fast at Disney. Many departments. Many managers. Many people protecting their own domain. The head of Disney Vacation Club doesn't have carte blanche to start giving members ticket discounts, merchandise discounts and other perks without approval of others.

It will take a minimum of six months before he makes any real impression.

Another poster touched on the idea that the PAP discount is a no-brainer since it leads to more trips, more spending, etc. It's just not that simple. If Disney would see a net gain from lower priced tickets or discounted merchandise, they would discount those items for EVERYONE!

People have different spending patterns. For every person who scheduled extra trips, bought more t-shirts and added a few points due to that PAP discount, others didn't change their spending at all...yet still saved $300 per pass.
