Redeeming SW rapid rewards for gift cards

I don't plan on using my cc after my Orlando trip. I have already used points for my airfare and my husband also has a rapid rewards account that we will use for future travel. I was wonder if anyone has used their RR for gift cards. I want to use redeem for Landry's so we can go to Rainforest Cafe and Alamo for the car rental. How fast are the gift card sent to you? Is this through email or is a physical card sent to my home? A good idea or not?

I redeemed for a couple of store GC's after we'd taken our trip and had some extra points. It took about 2-3 weeks to get my gift cards in the mail.
