I've got a few photos from an inline skating race my club held this past weekend that I think I might submit. I just have to look into what's involved with model releases.

Looks like the photos will be available free to anyone. So you will loose all rights. (not that anyone is buying any of my photos to begin with) But winning will make you famous!

Red bull makes soooooooooo much money. Do you know they have enough to sponsor two formula one teams?

I'm not ripping on red bull just adding info.

In the legal part of the rules section, it says this:

LEGAL: IMAGE COPYRIGHTS
All images submitted for consideration in the Illume Image Quest 2006 contest remain the sole property of the photographer. Entrants retain copyright over each of their images.
Entrants grant Red Bull a license to use the images in relation to the contest as described more fully below.

To me, that sounds like we'd retain the rights to the photos, but would be giving only Red Bull the license to them in relation to the contest. I could be misreading or misinterpreting that.

As you say, it's not like anyone is buying my photos anyway, and it'd just be cool to win, however much of a long-shot it'd be.

I did not read any of the full release. I just saw this part on the first page:

"Red Bull Illume is in collaboration with Red Bull Photofiles. Red Bull Photofiles is the largest free sports and extreme sports photo library worldwide offering amazing pictures free of charge for editorial use."

Did you ever go see the flugtag (sp) that they sponsor. It is a buch of people seeing how far they can fly by running off the end of a peir. Extravagant contraptions encouraged...

No, I hadn't seen the flugtag. That is hysterical. The next one's in Baltimore - I might have to go! Some of those contraptions are rather elaborate.

Oh, and the photos from the contest are amazing. There's one a guy took while skiing - rather dramatic perspective on the slope!
