Does anyone subscribe to the Redbox for streaming movies? I currently have Netflix and right now I am very tempting to cancel. There is hardly anything new to watch anymore:sad2: My kids are constantly watching shows over and over and complain daily not having anything new. I was searching on the Redbox website and couldn't find any info on the streaming devices. We have a samsung smart tv and also a wii that we stream our Netflix on.
Oh, Redbox says there is a free 1 month trial, what is the monthly cost afterwards? I couldn't find that either.
TIA

I had Redbox Instant for 3 months, but finally gave it up this past month.

There was a lot available to stream, but very few more recent, blockbuster type movies. What was available were a lot of redundant things for me, as I have Netflix and Amazon Prime, and there were many of the same things available there.

For the $7.99/month they charge, it's not a bad deal, as it comes with 4 DVD credits, but still more than I was willing to spend. We rent around 3-6 movies from Redbox in a month but get free or BOGO type codes often, so the 8 bucks is more than I'd spend normally and the quality of the streaming wasn't great enough.

Since you have kids though, I'd definitely give the trial a try, since I can't recall much of what kids selections were available, it may be great for you. :)

I subscribed for the "free month" trial but will be dropping it ASAP!!! I reserved a BluRay movie. When I got to the box, the box itself was broken so I had to call customer service to have my credit refunded to my account (you get 4 movie credits per month). Customer service then informed me that with the membership, I am NOT entitled to any BluRay movies (which was not written ANYWHERE!). I was charged for the movie on my credit card!! Customer service REFUSED to refund my credit card for the price of the movie and would only give me credit towards another bluray rental, although it was their box that was broken!! I can not understand why I could not be given a refund but only a credit. Further, my husband went to return the movie the next night, but was unable to return it without the actual credit card on the account! I was charged yet ANOTHER night for the movie! So much for the "free trial." I can rent a movie on iTunes or Amazon for much less aggregation! The streaming movies are very limited at best. Very poorly executed program on Verizon's and Redbox's part. Not worth $8 in my opinion. The BluRay movies at RedBox are only 30 cents more!

I've never had to swipe my CC to return a movie with Redbox before, how strange. I just press Return, insert the movie and it says 'Thanks'.

Didn't know that about BluRays, since I don't rent them, but I assumed when you use a credit towards one you just have to pay the difference. Gonna look into this now since I'm about to buy a new BD player and will be renting them soon.

We had a Redbox movie recently and rarely get them. When I was returning it, I thought it needed the credit card as well. But in looking at it more closely, you did not. The wording on the machine was confusing. My husband returned one a few days later to a different machine and he didn't need any card. So that might have been a misunderstanding in the OP's part. I also thought that would have been very strange, but it turned out not to be the case.

Both my card and my wife's are on one account and either works when picking up.

I was looking into the streaming thing a couple of days ago and it does say that to do the BluRay plan it is $9. The $8 plan is for regular dvds.

From what I have seen (on the site since I have not tried the service yet) it looks like older movies. I think that it is one of those things that if you have Netflix or Amazon streaming you do not need Redbox streaming. Not sure if Redbox has TV shows but if it does not then I would rather have Netflix or Amazon.

I cancelled Netflix a few months ago and did the free Prime trial but I do not miss them. With OnDemand I get to watch many shows I miss during the week and we also get Encore for free so we watch those movies.

I tried the Redbox streaming program when they first rolled it out. It's absolutely AWFUL. Literally the worst movies I've ever seen for a selection. No current movies that Netflix doesn't already have. I agree with Netflix not updating their selection as often anymore, but Redbox streaming is about 1/100 of the quality of Netflix. lol

You can opt to do the Redbox streaming with 4 dvd credits (to rent at the actual Redbox machines), or you can select a cheaper plan without the rental credits. Either way, it's not worth it. You can try the free trial if you want, but I'll guarantee you you will cancel it within a week. :)

We use credits for BluRay movies at our Redbox(s), we just pay the difference (if there is one). You also don't need a cc to return a movie, only to rent one.
I just heard about the streaming option, not sure I'd do it because we do like our Netflix. I may look into it though just because I'm curious.

We were trying the free trial, but won't be subscribing. To us the movies available for streaming were old , and not much for the kids. Similar selection as netflix, though maybe less. We tend to watch a family movie together every other week or so and we couldn't find anything everyone could agree on, on Redbox. Plus I like having everything through my roku and it isn't supported yet. The four free rentals is a nice feature but I bought my dh movie rental codes that came with extra free rentals for christmas and we are not even halfway through those yet. And our rentals normally are like 8 one month, none the next. Using the 4 every month would seem like pressure, lol. So not worth it to us.

Where do you get the codes for free and BOGO movies?

I like Redbox for when we are traveling in our motorhome since we can rent in one place and return in another. We haven't done streaming though...we use Netflix at home for that, but only the kids use streaming for some shows...doesn't seem like they many good movies available that way.

Have you considered switching from Netflix to Hulu Plus or Amazon Prime? I'm currently using Netflix but its my understanding that Hulu Plus tends to focus more on new/current television shows as compared to older stuff (like a fair amount of the stuff on Netflix.)

Be careful when u reserve movies. I reserved two movies and machine wouldn't work so my husband went to a different machine and got some movies and they wouldn't refund money for reserved movies

Sign up to get texts from them. I get texts all the time for a deal or free movie.

Text the word SIGNUP to 727272. They send a code for a free text every month and codes for 50 cents off, or B1G1, etc.

There's also some ongoing promo codes that you can use at Redbox machines inside/outside certain

DVDNIGHT
REDBOX (new customers only)
DVDONME
BREAKROOM
DRIVEIN (Sonic only)
DVDATWEG (Wegmans only)
DVDATWAG (Walgreens only)
WALGREENS (Walgreens only)
DVDKROG (Kroger/Ralph's stores only)
DVDATKROGER (Kroger/Ralph's stores only)

If you have more than 1 credit card, you can use each code once per card; I've used most of these codes 3 times because I have 3 different CCs to swipe to secure the rental. We don't have Wegman's or Sonic around here, so I haven't used those, and I haven't tried DVDNIGHT yet, but all the others I have.

A little savings but it all adds up. :)
