I just recieved a "reciept" of transaction in my gmail inbox.

It comfirms the rental of 2 movies at Redbox at Kroger(we don't have any for 100 miles) in MI. It shows a Discover card used.....which I do not have one.

I think that somebody just accidentally put your email address in- maybe their address is just a character off.

I would check all your credit/debit cards for unusual transactions. My DH's friend had CC info stolen and traced it back to Redbox, thinks someone got info from there.

Call the credit bureaus and make sure no one has opened a Discover card in your name. This actually could be a warning of identity theft.

I would let Redbox know that someone is using your email also. I would check your credit info though to make sure.

Previous posters - all good advice under normal circumstances, but I don't believe much of it will apply to OP in this instance.

momxx5 - I agree with the first post after yours -- it was probably just a typo in the e-mail address...

The email address is pretty specific....tied to my name, as one of the first gmail email addresses way back when, so it would really be a stretch to think it was a typo.

It is extremely unlikely that anyone would be able to open a cc in my name, as with out employment issues and all....well lets say our credit rating wouldn't qualify for a new Discover card let alone anything else.

I guess I'll get in touch with Redbook just as an fyi.

You might be surprised! I was signing up for a website and needed a user name, well I used a combination of mine and my DH name and it was already taken! lol. And I have an different spelling of a common name. So, you never know.;)

Had this happen to me as well. No one stole my identity, but it took several attempts with Red Box for them to finally get the information corrected. Week after week for about 2 months or so, I kept getting receipts. Each time I contacted Red Box and told them I wasn't renting movies, but someone was using my email to do so. Good luck with this.

As long as they are using a valid credit card then you are safe. I would do something about it though. Just in case...call them tell them what is going on and ask them if your name or even last name is connected with that purchase. Just to make sure they aren't using a CC that is in your name... You don't need the name just want to confirm it isn't yours...

Someone entered my wife's email for a trip. Rental car, hotel, all confirmations arrived to my wife. The email address should have had a period instead of underscore separating first and last name. As specific as your address is, someone has something 99% identical to it. What amazed me was they typed in the wrong email twice.
