red wine suggestion?

Sitting here enjoying an Edelbeerenlesen (PRP Murfatlar), but it's not commercially available. Other than that, Agree with the assessments of the Fat *******! Ruffino has a good Chianti if you want another good red.

IceBrat, if you'd told me two years ago that I'd drink red wine regularly, I would have told you that you were crazy. My wonderful neighbor (a former sommelier) looked upon DH as a challenge and kept bringing different reds to dinner.

I was just curious if any of you belong to a wine club? I have looked into a few, but haven't joined any yet.

Not a club, but my husband and I buy from PRP Wines. They only sell through direct market contact. We sampled the wines last year at the Florida Home Show and our consultant warned us that we'd be hooked. She listened to what we told her we liked and the rest is history.

We have to purchase by the case, but we've had no problems with the format. Our only disappointment is that our absolute favorite is a Hungarian red (Egri Merlot) seems to come from a valley that produces a vintage once every two to three years. Anxiously awaiting a vintage in '07 or '08!

Is it Blue Mountain Vineyards that you're talking about? I have a bottle of their ice wine in my wine cellar. I talked to one of the vintners one day in a local liquor store. He told me about their process and promised me that I'd like it. I almost pulled it out yesterday to serve to my friends, but the blizzard was calling them home early. They had to drive 2-hours to get home. If they didn't have to go so soon, and drive so far, we'd have popped the cork.

No, it is Breitenbach Winery, in Sugarcreek, Ohio.

poohnatic: First, I love the mickey toppers in a vase! Second, I'll have to look into PRP wines.

Ha ha! I thought you meant somewhere in or around Lancaster County, PA when you said Amish country. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

This is the Ohio Amish Country.

Tonight I get to try that bottle of Sterling. I have my cheese coming to room temperature and some nice crusty bread.

We enjoyed the Sterling Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 last night. It had a nice complexity of flavors and depth and was smooth. It was definitely better than most cabernets that we have had, but it will have to be a special occasion wine. It was better, but not that much better than say the Yellow Tail or even the one we buy in Amish Country.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Glad you enjoyed your wine.
Try their Vintner's version, it's a lot less expensive but still has nice flavors. I use that for my every day wine. (well, not every day, but you know what I mean)
It's around $10.00 a bottle.
