I've been reading through the multiple marathon threads. You are quite a chatty group. I'm a bit confused about the red/blue starts of the marathon. Could someone please fill me in on the specifics? With the different starts, how do you know where to go? What's the difference with the routes? Are the bib number either red or blue? As you can tell, lots of questions. If it matters, I have a three digit number. Not sure exactly what it is. Thanks!!!
Although this is all shown in the program which can be found online at the DW marathon site, basically red starts further up the road a ways, but takes a longer way to get to Epcot, and then cuts through Epcot the short way back out to near where the start was where it meets up with blue after the 3 mile point. Blue takes a shorter way into Epcot, but starts further back and takes the long way around the world showcase before heading out and meeting up with red. Confused yet?
Like I said, take a gander at the course map and it will make sense. Your placement in red/blue will be based on bib number and I'm sure there will be signs and helpful volunteers to point you in the right direction. It's basically all to avoid having all 16,000 runners in the same cramped space.
Your bib will have red or blue on it. However, you just follow the heard towards teh corral that morning and there will be giant signs (light up contruction type) telling you where to go for what corral (by letter). You'll have no problem.
sara - Once you pick ip your packet, you'll nkow which route you are. Your corral number will be in red or blue on your bib. SO, you'll know which course you'll be on. Ther ewill be no note of red or blue in teh area leading ot the corrals, but following teh letter of your corral will get you to the right place. I'm gonna go find teh pick of how easy it was to follow the signs.
Alweays goo dto cross one worry off your list! Glad I could help. BTW, I have that pic, because teh enormity of the event just seems to be summed up by the size odf the sign! lol.
I was very interested in the different starts, so I called and asked Disney. Evidently, they alternate between race numbers. So..... not all numbers under a certain number end up being blue or red. Example: 0-1000 blue 1000-2000-red 2000-3000-blue etc. (These are not the true correlations just an example)
Does this sound right to runners who have done the race before?
