Hi guys, i am a sox fan living in NJ and just wondered if any of you could help me out. Myself, my wife and 2 of our friends are going to Boston the weekend of July 29th and i have been to Fenway before but my wife who is now a Sox fan has never been. Anyway, obviously all games at Fenway this year are sold out and the ticket brokers all want an arm and a leg for tickets. $100 for standing room???? NO CHANCE. Even tickets on ebay are ridiculous. Do any of you know of anyone i could contact to try and buy 4 tickets at a reasonable price to the game July 29th or 30th against Minnesota? I've tried everywhere else so figured i would see if anyof you have any ideas. Thanks in advance.

:rotfl2: ;)

Seriously, I dont think its possible. We tried on 3 phones and online the day the tickets went on sale...just to get tickets to ANY game and we could not get through. We tried for hours on end! The brokers are ridiculous! It's sad a that a family cant go to a baseball game without being completely ripped off. I dont know how they are legal!

But anyway, we did luck out and the Red Sox are playing the Angels on a day that we have nothing to do while we wait for our flight home from CA this summer. So we got tickets there with no problem...5 minutes after they went on sale. They were much cheaper than at Fenway anyway. :)

I hope you luck out some how too!!! :goodvibes

I can't hell but here's a bump to keep this going. I hope you get tickets, nothing like being in Fenway for a sox game :cheer2:

Good luckbut I dout you will find anything

We lucked out and got 3 tickets waaaaaaay up in the bleachers for a game in June lol. It was dd5 first trip to Fenway and she had a blast.

Good luck getting some tickets...

We've had a tough time finding tickets for the past few years, too. I did buy 2 sets of tickets for face value off my cousin this year, and DS was lucky enough to be invited with some friends for a 3rd game, but trying to get tickets otherwise is tough. Online all games were sold out early on.

Apparently they do hold some seats the day of the game but you have to be in line when the box office opens at 10am (I believe) and there's no guarantee. I do know a ticket agency that sells tickets but they are astronomical - $80 for bleacher seats. They were selling tickets for opening day against the Yankees for $500 each.

I remember the days when my friend and I regularly got in free when our uncles who worked there let us in. Boy, have times changed. :faint:

Continue to check the official Red Sox website for tickets. They often release batches within a few weeks of a game (except the really hot ones like the Yankees). Don't be fussy at this point though, of course. Actually, you may luck out and get box or grandstand seats.

If I have a chance I may check at the Box Office. I drive right past Fenway each workday.

Yes, sometimes you can get seats from the box office at the last minute - but very unlikely. I don't know if the scalpers out front are for real or how much their tickets are, but I remember that the price goes down as the game's about to start - if you're brave or very desperate you could try them.

Now, don't hate me but I have the opportunity to go to Sox games all the time with DH's company's tix but I usually turn them down - I'd rather be home in my pj's. :duck: I wish I could offer my seat to you but DH has to use them for business. Sorry! I'll ask him if he can think of some other source of tickets for you though.

DS joined Red Sox Kids Nation this year and one of the features is that they set some tickets aside for these members as "family tickets" - with the only stipulation being you have to buy them at the box office the day of the game. I haven't tried it yet but I work nearby and am going to give it a shot soon. I'm going to try it without the card first since you can only buy two tickets per cardmember and I'd like to get four so all of us can go together.

However, that's not what I was talking about. A friend of mine regularly goes in the day of the game and gets tickets. He says it has something to do with the visiting team - that they have to put tickets aside for their fans to see the game. :confused3 Not really sure but I know he gets tickets that way.

To the OP: if you're in Boston it might be worthwhile to get to Fenway at box office opening the day of the game to see if you can get tickets that way. It's worth a shot - there's nothing like it!

It's difficult, can happen, so here are a few option other than stubhub.

First, they do have ticket dumps that occur, often on a weekday afternoon at some arbitrary time, so just keep checking.

The only other option is to join replay, which is about $50 a year if I recall and that allows you to buy tix from season ticket holders at face price plus a small transaction fee. That info is available at the website, but might not be cost-effective for one game all things considered.

Unfortunately, though, other than lucking out, it takes alot of persistance and effort to get RS tix without paying premium. For those of you interested for next year, make sure you join the ticket lotteries as they may pay off. Of course, even when you "win" a ticket lottery, it only wins you the right to be in virtual waiting room he** forever, but it can be worth the time if you don't mind waiting hours sitting prone at your computer with 400 windows open waiting for one, any one, to connect. For myself, this year I had pixie dust on me or something, I won lotteries for green monster tix, right field roof table tix, and Yankee tix -- then, to make things better, I actually made it through virtual he** each time and got tix.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions. i think what we are going to have to do is just show up at Fenway a couple hours before the game and see if we can get anything reasonable from a scalper. And if we can't get in then we will just do other things in Boston as there is always something to do. Thanks again and if anyone is able to come up with any ideas please let me know.

John

We were actually thinking of going to Toronto and get tickets for a Red Sox game there! It is really amazing when you have to think about going to other parts of the country to see your local baseball team play. I wish they would have more tickets available for the general public as opposed to the corporations. Good luck. I hope you can find some tickets.

Snowysmom--I agree, we went to Baltimore last summer during the DNC, and caught 2 games at Camden and got to see the Sox there.

To the OP--have you checked www.stubhub.com ? In theory it's for season ticket holders to sell back tickets they can't use. All Fenway tix are astronomically priced, but these seem to be close to face value for some?

Good Luck

I would definite try going to Fenway to buy tix..that might be your only shot. In theory, tickets are supposed to be sold at face value per Massachusetts law and I think you do find most people selling outside of Fenway are selling at face value because there are always undercover cops looking for scalpers.

Good luck!

This is why I'm going to Baltimore next weekend - to see my Red Sox! I do know someone at work who just goes to Fenway the day of a game and buys tix from people outside the park. She said the closer to Fenway, the better, as they are usually legitmite and will not charge more than face value. I guess the true scalpers don't like to hang out too close to Fenway for fear of getting caught. Good Luck!

P.S. I'm already planning on another road trip next year to see the Red Sox at another park - I'm hoping they play the Phillies again as I have a nephew now living in Philly.

thanks debster- i am familiar with stubhub. I think stubhub just buys the tickets from the people that can't use them and then sells for a bundle the same as all the other ticket brokers online. they just advertise different to make people think they are buying from other fans. I'll keep searching the web and then try my luck up in Boston that weekend.

Now, I'm not suggesting anything, but my brother gets into games all the time without tickets. I've never REALLY asked how but let's just say the guys at the gates can be "persuaded" into letting you in Standing Room Only if you "a$k" nicely enough..... :rolleyes1

This is going to make you Sox fans cry. When they played Tampa Bay here they were nearly giving the tickets away. All you had to do was buy a burger from Sonic and you either got or paid a very small amount of money for up to 4 tickets. Tampa is a bit far for me to travel so I was having a fit that I actually could have gone to a Sox game and didn't. :(

good luck! You might want to try craigslist.com and go to the boston section on the right. It will have a spot where you can look for tickets. We get tickets from there sometimes... it's still mostly scalpers but it's worth a shot!
