I have naturally auburn hair and I was thinking of getting highlights in my hair. Is it silly to do that to red hair? Anyone with auburn hair ever get highlights put in? I was thinking blonde, or strawberry blonde.

Please any advice would be appreciated :)

I think highlights in red hair would be fine. If you have a good stylist they will find the right color highlight for your specific hair color. I would avoid strawberry blonde highlights and just go for a dark blonde color.

blonde highlights would look good, not too chunky though, just blended in... WG is right, if you find a good stylist, he/she should be able to do some foils

Thanks! Yeah, I definitely dont want chunky highlights. So how blonde can I go? LOL, can you tell I'm warming up to this idea?

everything I read in this thread has been sexy

I couldn't find very much. But I like these two. The first one has several different colors in it. (I currently have 2 in mine and love it, red and blonde.)

My hair is naturally dark blonde but I get it dyed red and have blonde highlights. I love it.

I really love the color of that second girls hair. I think I'll go a little darker next time.

I am a natural red head, very red...think Opie! :teeth:

Generally, in the winter, I get really "brassy" so I get very blond highlights and it looks great, lightens up my whole face and makes me look "fresher". I have an excellent colorist. She takes a section of hair and then, using a pointed-ended comb, weaves the tip in and out of the section. This is what she colors using foils. By doing this, I don't have any chunks and it looks very natural. DH loves it. If I get it done In Nov and March, by the time it starts to grow out in the Spring, I get natural highlights from the sun and it works out just right.

My DSis has much darker red hair and, in the past, she has gotten very dark highlights and those look good too, tho I still prefer the blond.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm going to look into it very soon. I just have to decide the shade of blonde. Those pictures were real helpful in having a good visual idea.

Edited to fix my terrible typos!!

Your hair stylist should have a few ideas too. Go for it, I bet it'll look great.

post pictures when you get it done, I'll bet it will look great!! Good luck!

Tomorrow's the big day! I spoke to the woman who cuts my hair and she really talked up the colorist she originally recommended. She's thinking a caramel/coffee color but she said the colorist will talk to me before.
Oh, I'm getting half a head of highlights. Whats half, just like the top of your head? The stylist also mentioned that the color might "pull red" , what does that mean?
I guess I'll found out tomorrow! Wish me hair luck!! LOL
 <---- hopefully I'll look better than this guy!

cool, thanks for the info and pics. I have auburn hair also, with grey highlights. :p Never dyed my hair before, but I love the hair colors in the pics.

Go to a hair colorist/specialist, not just anyone! They'll know what to do to achieve the color you desire.

I have lots of red undertones in my hair, and I don't want it! So my stylist has to use lots of ash coloring to avoid bringing out the red when we color my hair.

Really good!! He ended up giving me a caramel/golden color high light. Hehe, I keep looking in the mirror :)
