Looking at flights for November 18-28. We would be flying from Portland OR to Orlando. Thinking of doing a red eye so we can have more time on arrival day as opposed to arriving around 5pm ish. Anyone on here done a red eye on either Delta or Jet Blue. I've never flown either. We flew Alaska in Sept, but their rates are crazy high right now. Even with a companion ticket, It is still cheaper to pay full rate for 3 tickets on another airline. Advice ??

Think twice about taking a coast to coast red eye. You will be wiped out the next day. It's much better to arrive the night before and get a good night's sleep.

We've done red-eye flights to WDW from the west coast several times. We really enjoy getting that extra day out of our vacations when you arrive early in the morning. We are able to get a bit of sleep on the plane, so that helps. On that first day, we hit a park until mid-afternoon, then head to our room for a rest/nap before dinner, then make it an early bed time.

It works for us, and we'll do it again on our next visit. BTW, we've flown red-eyes on both Delta and United. Schedules and airfares vary, so you have to check regularly for your travel dates.

Assuming everything is the same (cost, departure time, arrival time), I would probably go with JB. IIRC (they don't fly out of my airport so I've never been on them), every plane has personal video screens. That's enough to sell me.

I think JB also gives credit if your flight costs drop.

And I'm a Delta fan.

I think B4 (JetBlue) flies to MCO via one of the New York airports (and possibly Long Beach, CA). Delta could connect through Salt Lake City or Minneapolis instead of Atlanta. The connection may be important as the longer the stretch in the air, the more opportunity to nap. I this may be a consideration to take into account.

Plus, you are likely going to want the most legroom you can get, so how much is the cost to upgrade to Economy Comfort (DL)/Even More Space (B4)?

Just a couple of thoughts.

I did a JetBlue redeye from Portland OR to JFK. That was my first redeye. Normally I nap on flights, so I assumed I would have no trouble sleeping. I was wrong. My body was not happy to be sitting upright at night. As soon as I fell asleep, I jerked awake. My feet were swollen when I landed.

I swore if I had to do it again, I would spring for the Extra Legroom seats.

I was not heading to Orlando after JFK, I was heading home. You're talking about a 5 hour+ redeye followed by a 2 1/2 hour+ flight to Orlando.

I wouldn't be able to go to a theme park or do anything fun if that were my itinerary. But obviously a PP felt differently. You'll have to think about the energy level of your group.

They turned off the lights on the flight to JFK. Most people tried to sleep. I don't think the JetBlue TV screens are a big advantage on that particular flight. I doubt you would spend much time watching TV.

I will start by saying that we are Delta loyalists - we used to live near MSP and now live near PDX. I would suggest Delta over Jetblue because the connections will be better - a Delta redeye could connect into ATL, MSP, or DTW which are much more convenient connections than the NY area airports for Jetblue.

If you can get a delta redeye into ATL, take it over MSP or DTW! The flight into MCO is easy from ATL.

There won't be red eye connections through SLC but if you take a day time flight, connecting through SLC on Delta is the easiest way to get to MCO.

Plus if you are Alaska Mileage plan members, you will earn Alaska FF miles for flying Delta.

As for whether or not red eyes will work, we redeye only if we know we can sleep on arrival for a few hours. For us, we would rather arrive around 5pm into MCO and be ready to go in for the evening than arrive exhausted in the morning. It depends on your group.
