Recycle Old Electronics for Money- Best Companies?

I know there are a lot of businesses that will let you turn in your old phones/iPods/etc. for money, even if they're not in good shape. I figured you all may have the leads on the best and most legitimate companies! Any recommendations on who to use to get rid of an old iPhone 5 and iPod? The iPhone isn't in great shape (screen is literally peeling away from the phone) so not even sure I can get anything, but I've heard of people saying they've sent in phones with totally smashed screens and still gotten some money.

TIA!

No money for me, but here in California the state pays Goodwill to take recyclable items.

Following - we have 3 iPhones up in the cabinet & 2 kids 'play' games with (using like an iPod touch) ... Hoping to upgrade next year which will add two more to the pile of completely usable, just outdated, devices. First world problem, I know, but I believe ATT doesn't sell iPhones at a discount when you 'upgrade' & sign a new contract anymore so if we can recoup some $ on these devices we sure would like to!

You can try Best Buy, Amazon and Gazelle .com

All of them buy back outdated devices. However, you will probably be disappointed with what they offer. A 16GB iPhone 5 with broken screen that still powers on will net you about $5. Older iPhones aren't even worth that much, but they will "recycle them for free".

I use my older devices to make money through Perk. All but my iPhone 3 can be used for that purpose and I get more money in one week from Perk than I would get by selling those phones to Gazelle or Best Buy.

I use my old iPhone 4 for Swagbucks. I can't get Perk, Swagbucks, or anything to work on the iPhone 5 anymore, not sure why. Even resetting the phone didn't work. I figure even if I only get $5, it's $5 I didn't have. Thanks!

We recently traded in some old devices at Best Buy. We priced a couple other places, and they seemed to pay the most. We were then able to turn the BB gift cards into Disney gift cards!

My husband have sold our old devices on ebay as well as Gazelle. Gazelle is probably the most competitive with no hassle. I know there is some risk with ebay but I try to be smart and have never had an issue. I always make sure to save a screenshot showing my ESN number and take good pictures. Clearly you will get the highest $$ amount on ebay.

Even if your screen is broken or if the phone doesn't work, people will still buy them on ebay and either try to get them working or use them for parts.

Perk is a rewards program. Like SB, you can run their apps on old phones and other smart devices to earn points. The points can be redeemed for electronic GCs. I make more on Perk than I do on SB, There's a thread about it that was just bumped up yesterday. It's not as active as the SB thread, but I find that there's not a ton to talk about. Run the apps, collect your points and redeem.

I am just in the midst of spring cleaning (I am trying the joy of tidying up method) but have the unfortunate reality of my wife having recently lost her job, so our old electronics need to fetch us a bit of cash. I will check out the sites you recommended… haven’t heard of several of them. I was actually considering using a company called Orchard and I’m wondering if anyone else has had experience with this service? They’re at http://www.getorchard.com/us

Never heard of them and I have to wonder why someone would register on a Disney website and their very first post contains a link to a commercial website. It's not as if people who lose their jobs immediately start planning Disney trips, so I've got to wonder whether you have a personal interest in this website.
