I have been deciding for a long time whether or not to apply and I have decided I want to apply but I can't decide which position to apply for! I really think I would enjoy recreation but has anyone worked there or know what kind of experience is needed to be in that role? Also is it hard to get into that position? Anything would be great just to narrow my choices down especially now that it's so late in March! Also would attractions be easier to get into or maybe a better choice for someone not so experienced with recreation stuff?! Thanks!

There are lots of jobs across Disney property that are classified as recreation, from working at the mini golf and golf courses, to handling marina rentals, to taking guests on horse back riding trips.

However most CPS in Recreation will be placed in Slide Ops at either Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach.

Its basically attractions for the water parks except you regularly get wet.

Benefits of slide ops at water parks is that for the most part you will always have like 8-6 normal hours, no overnight emh, no parade control

Working in the water parks you have no black out dates to go into the water parks in the summer when other cast members have to pay to get in.

You are also eligible to use the gym and weight room at ESPN Wide World of Sports.

All this is information from my now ex bf who was slide ops Spring Advantage 2010 so some of this information might have changed.

Do the apartment complexes not have gyms?! I didn't think to look into that.. If not, where do most CPs go to work out?

The apartment complexes do have gyms, I was just saying the one at WWOS is godlike since like the braves use it during spring training and such. I feel if you wanted more than a basic work out room with a few treadmills and one or two weight machines i believe alot of cps joined memberships with planet fitness which is apparently close by.

Of course I worked at Bears/TSI, so closing the island and sweeping for guests left on it as well as steering the rafts with tillers that were sticky and tended to not cooperate I never really made it to a gym and still managed to leave the program 10 pds lighter and had popeye arm muscles.

The gyms at the complexes aren't bad, but if you're really big on going to the gym and expect to have a lot of different machines/weights to use, then you'd be better off just getting a membership somewhere nearby for the duration of your program. (Like GGB1987 said, the gyms at the complexes only hold very standard equipment. They're more for people who just want to casually work out running the treadmill and such.) During my program last year, Disney had some deal for a gym that I think is located at Team Disney across from DTD (but, don't quote me on that) that you only had to pay like $4 a week for or something... And they took it right out of your paycheck, so you didn't have to worry about it. I don't know if that was some special deal at the time or if they always have it and I just didn't hear about it until later on, but that's supposed to be a full gym. It's a good deal if you don't have a car because you can request to have the DTD bus drop you off/pick you up there.

I just got accepted into recreation and from what my interviewer said it could be a wide variety of things. I suggest you youtube it for even more info.

Does anyone know what sort of preferences are made for different recreation roles? There seems to be such a variety.
