Hey! My friend just got accepted and her role is recreation, what exactly does that entail? And how are the working conditions?

Thanks,

Karin

Recreation can be a multitude of things, including kids activities, marina rentals, arcades, pool & other recreational activities at resorts, or slide operations at the water parks. She won't know what she'll be doing until she gets down there and there really is a broad range of what it will be. You can bet that she'll probably be required to be outside for long periods of time since most recreation roles are outdoors.

When I did my CP in 2007, I worked in Crescent Lake Recreation (which is the Yacht/Beach Club and Boardwalk Resort Area). There, we could work at Stormalong Bay at gates (checking room keys to let people into the pool), marina rentals, the Boardwalk Community Hall, pool chemist, kids activities, the Sandcastle Club at the Beach Club (babysitting), and more. I believe they now have an arcade rover role, as well.

I had a friend who did slide operations at Blizzard Beach before being moved over to Crescent Lake Recreation when Blizzard Beach went down for refurbishment. He said that he usually worked 10 hour days for 4 days a week and really just sat at the top of slides and told people when they could go down. There is a rotation so you're not stuck at the same slide all day long. He loved it.

As you can see, there really is a lot of variety in what you can do.
