does anyone know what the recreation role does? i asked on the main questions thread but i figured i would get specific with it and start my own thread about it. ive narrowed it down to 3 and recreation is one of them so im trying to get details on every one of them and experiences from people who have worked it or maybe knew someone who did. so if this applies to u would u mind helping out? :)

The description on http://www.wdwcollegeprogram.com/sap/its/mimes/zh_wdwcp/students/role_descr/onstage.html lists:
"waterslide operations, towel rental, watercraft rental, marina operations, arcades, or resort recreational facilities"

The people I knew who were in recreation did those things. Primarily they were in the resorts, but the slide operators were in typhoon or blizzard. the people in the resorts usually rotated around to the different areas in their resort or did everything from a single site (handled towel rentals and water craft from the same window).

ok thanks. that helps. i did read the description on the site but wanted to hear from people who had actually done it (or in ur case knew someone who had :P)

Hey I am doing recreation starting next month! I am going down and checking in on the 13th!

oh thats exciting! u will have to tell me all about it. do u have anywhere in particular u want to work at?

i would really like to work on a water slide. :D or in the water parks in general. i can't wait.

what would u do if u worked on the water slides? ive never been to the water parks before so i dont really know anything about them

Hey guys! I did the college program fall advantage 2006 in recreation. It was awesome. I worked at Ft. Wilderness, Wilderness Lodge, and Contemporary.

When I worked during the day, I was the cashier for the marina and worked with the boats. You teach people how to drive them, wash them, fix them, etc. You also get to help with IST with the lifeguards if you would like to. I got to do the children's activities most afternoons, which involves cute little games by the pool.

If I worked the night shift (most CPs don't get to do this, but if you are stationed anywhere that they do this, you should ask because it is awesome)!, I drove the specialty cruises for Wishes. This means that I went to a dock and picked the people up, took them on a small cruise around the Bay Lake, watched the light show, and then we watched Wishes from the boat. It is really an awesome experience, especially when people are celebrating something. I loved the proposals!!!

Recreation is pretty awesome. The costumes are not bad and everyone is pretty laid back. If you have any other questions, let me know! :cool1:

OMG! That is sooooo AWSOME! I WANT TO DO THAT!! I am getting super excited about the CP now! and I would love to do the boats. I love the marina life.. wow.. i totally hope.

I was lifeguard cp in 2003, based at AKL. I loved it there, I childern activites to do, lifeguard, swim in the pool, walk around the hotel looking around it was great, not that hard. Then I would get deployed out to PO, POLY, GF, PC, CS, BW, TL, so each resort had its own thing that made it cool. My fav to go work at was the POLY, with the marina, kids center with the free food, they would even call me on my days off to ask me if I wanted OT, mo money it was great. The Poly right across the lake from MK so it was cool to watch the fire works at night. But AKL was cool too. Plus I got a great tan. Oh yea one time my parents came and visited me and we went over to the Poly I just wanted to show them that resort, they asked if we wanted to take some water mouses out, we went out for 45 mins for free. They were great. So each resort has its own perks. But I would not want to be just a slid opperator at a water park, that would be boring. Go become a lifeguard so much more fun, cause you can go see so much more.

To do recreation do you need to be certified as a lifeguard/CPR or take the lifeguard test that they require? Or is Lifeguarding a completely different thing.

I ask because it seemed like what ever resort my family and I went to the lifeguards were doing all of the stuff that recreation entails.
THANKS!!

Recreation is different from lifeguarding. You don't need your certification to do it. Also, recreation runs the marinas, while the lifeguards run the pools.

I got accepted in recreation and ended up in Golf...go figure:cool1:

Who does the children's activities at the resorts, like the un-birthday parties and stuff like that?
