Recovering photos from a cracked CD?

Backing up is always a good thing. And on multiple media types. Because you never know what's going to happen.

Many thanks to ThurlFan who PM'd me the name of a couple other programs I could try. Within about 15 minutes I had more than 300 files extracted. That's far more than I expected to get back, and included the night castle shot I wanted.

Would it be against the rules to post those programs? I think they might come in useful someday.

The freeware I tried first only got 10 files and took forever. The first of the 2 suggestions you sent was unsuccessful. The second one allows you to try 2 files per day free of charge as a trial. I started with the last photos first, knowing (once again thanks to your help) that they were in the uncracked outer part of the CD. All I did was click on 2 file names and seconds later the photos appeared. I bought the program and $27 and about 10 minutes later had more than 300 of my photos back.

I think Thurlfan PM'd them to me only to make sure it was within DIS guidelines. I think it's fine though as long as neither of us has anything to gain from those products.

The freeware I tried was Recovery Toolbox. That's the one that got me about 10 photos.

The other one I tried unsuccessfully was CDRoller.

The one that did the trick was Recover Disc 2.0.
