I accidentally deleted photos off my camera's memory card while I was on vacation. I thought I read there are programs that will retrieve the photos. Can anyone recommend such a program? Are they free to download, or do you buy them?

Make sure that, if you haven't already, you immediately stop using the card. The files can be written over if you take more pictures after you've deleted them. If you did take more pictures after deleting them, you might be able to recover some of them, but it depends on how the data was written onto the card.

take it to a professional photo/computer place to get it checked... if there's a chance to save them- but I doubt it,as I did this once years ago,and they were gone. I took it to a local place that did digital camera printing professionally...no dice.:(

Check with a local camera store. We offer that service here in Cody Wy. and have saved thousands of photos for people. I would not buy the software unless you check with the company that makes it. Some cameras scramble the info when it is deleted and you can not recover them.

There is a company in California that also offers recover of data but they are expensive but they are one of the best. They are Drive Savers and can do hard drives as well as cards and phones.

Good luck

There are lots of photo recovery software programs, some of them free. That's all a camera store would be using and charging a lot more than the cost of the software. As mentioned do not use the card anymore until you've tried to recover. Deleted in this case does not mean gone. It's kind of like your recycle bin on your computer. It sticks around for awhile. Head over to photography board and do a search, you'll get lots of suggestions. Those guys know what they're doing so won't lead you astray.

I feel your pain! I did this on our last Disney trip! I accidentally hit a button to format and it deleted everything! I did use the camera which permanently deleted the space I re wrote over. I went online and downloaded a program for $20. I cannot remember which one (sorry) but there are programs out there. You don't have to use a "professional" just make sure you use norton or virus software to make sure it's not going to infect your computer. I will re post if I can find what I used.

My grandmother recently deleted the photos off of her memory card accidentally. I did a google search and found a free program that I downloaded to her computer and ran. It found hundreds of deleted photos - some recent and some very old. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the program, but you should be able to find it rather easily.

Did you delete them from your computer or the memory card? I deleted from my memory card and both Best Buy and Staples said they might be able to retrieve them. But DON'T take anymore pictures using it!!!

Oh, I guess I should mention it's around 100.00. So, no not free.

I couldn't tell you the name of the program but I accidentally erased an entire Disney trip! Dh just searched free recovery software and picked one. It worked!!! It actually recovered nearly every photo ever taken on that card. Thousands and thousands !! It took days to download it all bit it was worth it to get the lost ones!

Actually you did not delete them. Sort of.

You did two things

1. Removed the ability to look at them
2. Made it possible to write over them.

Prior to deleting you can look at the pictures and you cannot write over them.

When you did a delete you removed the protection that prevents you from writing over the picture . Many believe they are erasing everything. The picture remains there until another picture replaces it. That doesn't happen immediately. New pictures are placed into the blank space of the card. When the card is full then new pictures are placed over the old ones.

The recovery program returns your ability to read the pictures.

well,I did mine few years ago,so this is good info to learn....next time I will stop using the card!
