For all the new CPs, a word of advice...PLEASE be attentive and responsible toward your record card. A call-in here and a call-in there can really add up. If you are truly ill, of course you should stay in and get better, but if you want to go to the beach, save it for a day off.

Try to remember that there is someone out there, sitting in lit class who was passed over for this opportunity and YOU were chosen. You need to honor that as well as the commitment you made. You wouldn't be on the schedule if you weren't needed in the operation.

Your record card can determine your future with the Company (or its subsidiaries, which are many), so please don't take it lightly.

Thanks for the advice...I think that everyone here will definitely be taking their jobs seriously.

Were you a former CP? A manager now? Just wondering what prompted this (very important) tidbit of advice.

You would be surprised how many people don't take their jobs seriously as CPs.

A lot of them do. Don't get me wrong. I took my job very seriously as did a ton of other people I know. Yet for some reason, people think that the CP is just one big party and it's ok to call in all the time and it's ok to drink underage and go to the parks after calling in and I just don't get it haha.

Do you have fun on the CP? Oh my goodness, yes!

Did I call in while on the CP? Yes. a few times. There got to be a point where I was sick... and another point where i was burnt out and just needed an extra day off. It happens.

Did I abuse the call-in's... no.

Did other's abuse the call-in's? yes. i had friends get termed for calling in so much.

It is a job. It is a serious job. It can help you SO much in your future just having that Disney name on your resume! I've had a few companies want to interview me and the first thing they ask about is my experience at Disney. (i now have an assistant manager job, because of it).

I agree 100% with the original poster. Call in's happen but you got the chance of a life time and it's really important to be a cast member Disney can count on!

Its also sad when you see people on the boards asking if its "normal" to leave the program. Like you said, someone else didnt get in because they did, and then they just leave.

Former CP, mom of 2 former CPs who are also CMs now (and, yes, currently a manager). I just like to put that reminder out there as a new season is about to begin...

Well I know that, personally, I have waited my whole life for this opportunity. I fell in love with WDW on my first trip when I was 7 years old, and as soon as I was old enough to contemplate a "real" job, my whole life has been centered around working at WDW. I am graduating from Boston University in 3.5 years with 2 degrees Magna Cum Laude to work toward this opportunity (because I was originally planning to take a semester off and still wanted to graduate on time...). I have since decided to do the CP at the end of my college career so that I can STAY down there...I want the Disney Company to know that I am in this for the long haul...

I have barely ever called in sick for work, and am extremely reliable and responsible. I plan to continue this trend at WDW.

This is also important if you ever plan to do the summer alumni program. Word is that last year they had so many people apply (3x the amount of spots) that it went down to record cards to determine who got in.
