We just returned and had dinner at 1900 Park Fare Thursday night and dinner at CP Friday night. We've done PF before and thought the food was pretty good. It was about the same this time. Nothing overly spectacular but basically good. It was relatively plain, not overly spiced/seasoned, the way most buffets are but there were many choices. As with all character meals at Disney, we go to see the characters, not for gourmet dining.
CP didn't impress me quite as much. I felt the room was crowded as was the buffet line and they didn't seem to have as nice a range of choices as PF did. I also hated that they kept interrupting the tables who were meeting with the characters to do some silly parade around the restaurant. It would be nice if they had an actual set time to do it so they didn't have to drag Pooh away when he was trying to sign an autograph and then make the kid wait while they took a break and then come back to take a picture. This happened to us and it was very frustrating because we had been finished with our meal for a good 10 minutes before we even caught sight of Pooh. Then when he finally made it to our table, DD was so excited that she handed him her autograh book and as he was trying to sign it the music started playing and the handler told him he had to leave. DD was bummin because she thought she wouldn't get a pic with him. The handler then said that they had to go take a break and she would bring Pooh back to her first. That was all well and good, but if that parade hadn't interrupted our meeting with him we could have gotten the autograph and the picture and been out of there. Plus, they could have seated someone else at our table during the extra 25 minutes we were stuck there.
But, this is just my opinion. I have read both great and horrible reviews about most of the restaurants! Like someone else said, if the menu looks appetizing to you, then go for it. I usually eat the same kinds of things at the buffets and they pretty much are all on par with one another with a few exceptions. You can always get a salad (which I always do, that way if I am not really impressed with anything else I have still filled up on something an added plus at PF was that they had spring mix instead of iceberg lettuce. A huge plus for me, not so much for DH and DD!); I usually try the pasta dish (equally good at PF--tri color tortellini and CP--penne with chick and mushrooms); I got salmon at both places (PF was better than CP but I also had it in the lounge at BC and that was the best!); Some sort of chicken dish (CP's was moroccan spiced and mostly dark meat. I had to search for a piece of white meat. I don't remember exactly what PF's chicken dish was, but I do know it was tasty); I had prime rib(pretty mediocre at both--I would skip it);CP had some delicious green beans on the kid's side, cooked perfectly! and I tasted their chicken strips which were pretty good also; CP had a banana bread pudding that DH said was good and the soft serve at both was tasty!
Have fun whichever you decide to do !
