Reconfirm reservations - is it necessary?

Some of the guide books say to reconfirm your reservations a week out from your trip. I was wondering, is that really necessary if you can see all your reservations online? Are you supposed to call and reconfirm?

As long as you can see then online I wouldn't call. Just have the confirmation numbers with you. I tried to confirm all of mine when I got there once and they couldn't find half of them. It needlessly panicked me because they were all fine, just not showing up in their system for some reason.

Thanks! I didn't see the need to sit on hold when they are probably looking at the same system data I can already see. But I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.
