I recently lost the back off of my cheapo Samsung Tracfone. They offer a reconditioned LG800G (with camera, MP3 player, touchscreen, etc.) for $5.

Do any Dis budgeteers have this phone? I'm not a phone guy and appreciate any guidance finding a cheap solution.

Thanks

My husband and I have both had this phone for what will be two years in December. We have not had any issues. It is a decent enough tracfone - a bit of an update but not really a workable smartphone.

It is touch screen and it can go on line, but the web browsing features we find pretty useless and consume minutes at a rapid rate - not worth it to us. We use the phone to talk and text, and it does these tasks adequately in a format new enough that our teens are not embarrassed by mom and dad's ancient phones :-)

Thanks PA Princess,

I'm assuming that I can transfer minutes and contract length from the old phone to the new. For $5 plus $5 shipping it seems worth it.

This would be an upgrade from my "burner" phone.;)

I just got rid of my 800, look at the 840g refurb, nicer phone, better touch screen. Through today it is $20, but my Dh found a code online for $5 off with free fedex shipping. The 800g was ok, but I always had trouble with the touch screen.

HDC,

Thanks for the link. When I enter my zip code, the 840G refurb does not appear. Since this is an 'emergency only' type of phone, the 800G should be good enough.

I have this phone and we just got the $5 one for DH, we transferred his number and minutes online.

We did the same for both dh and I - we transferred minutes and numbers from previous tracfones we each had.

I got this phone for my Dad for Christmas last year. I got it from QVC when they had a great deal and it came with a year plan plus maybe 1000 minutes (can't remember exactly).

It is a little complicated for him. He doesn't really use it as a smart phone. But it makes decent calls, etc. I remember it was a little difficult to text because it has one of those old setups where you have to hit the number button 3 times or whatever to get it from L to N, etc. But again, my dad doesn't text so it isn't a problem.

As an emergency phone, I think it would be great if you can get it cheap enough.

The LG800 has a widescreen qwerty, you may have to enable it, but it's there and not really that hard to use.
