Recommended Vacuum?

Another vote for Miele. I was going through a vacuum a year, and then I bought a dyson animal thinking it would last. Nope. 3 years later is was toast, too. So I bought a Miele. It is a very high quality machine, super quiet, and actually vacuums. I also like it because it is so light to push, because it is a canister. You're not pushing to entire machine back and forth over the carpet, just the brush.

My biggest complaint is that the cord is too short. I have big rooms, and I have to unplug and replug 2 or 3 times. I do love the cord rewinder, though! I'm terrible about winding up cords, but I just push a button and it does it for me.

I went through 2 Hoovers before buying a Shark. I absolutely love my shark. With five animals in our house, it really does suck up so much. On a side note, we got a Shark steam mop for our new hard floors over Christmas and it does a fantastic job.
