Recommendations on a budget elliptical exercise machine...

I'm wanting to get an elliptical exercise machine with Christmas money (of course, after Christmas...don't have the $$$ yet, lol). I have quite a bit of weight to lose, and I used to have good luck using one at the gym (our gym has since gone bankrupt).

So...do any of you have an elliptical, $600-ish or less, that you really like. I've read some pretty good reviews on a Schwinn 420, but it is closer to $700. I'm wanting something that can take a pounding from this plus sized gal .

For what it is worth...I'm 5'4"...so maybe something with an adjustable or appropriate stride.

Check Craigslist - I recently got an eliptical for FREE! Someone just wanted it out of their house and I happened to specify in my reply to them that I had a vehicle to transport it. They chose my response out of 25 they received.

It's my first one so I knew I didn't need anyhting fancy. It was also a good price to see if I liked using it (which I do). Last year a bought a recumbent exercise bike for $100 on CL and I use that 4 times a week.

Just start checking CL until you see something in your price range. Don't buy new!

I agree... check the classifieds or Craigslist. Many people buy machines and they become glorified clothes racks. If you don't mind waiting...lots of machines up for sale in Jan and Feb. People have new years resolutions and lose their resolve!

I spent $130. on a Proform from BJ's several years ago and it's still going strong. Gets used quite often too, sometimes daily, other times more like weekly (depending on the weather and our schedules, etc.). The expensive ones are really, really nice but this one does the job.
