Recommendations for Walkie - Talkies???

We are planning an extended family trip in November. We are considering purchasing walkie-talkies. There will be 3 different families. Ideally we would like a set of three. Does anyone have recommendations? We will be staying at FW and WL - are there any that transmit that distance? Thanks!

We invested in some very nice Motorola walkie talkies and they were a God send in the parks...I believe they were supposed to have a 5 mile radius, but we never really got that far apart to tell.

The downside is you may pick up other people's transmission, but if you pick a channel that is exclusively "yours", say a two digit number that is obscure, then you should be okay.

But my 2 mile walkie talkie was terrible. I paid $30 for mine. I couldn't reach my wife from Pooh ride to Big Thunder Mountain. Will use cell phones next time. From short range, they worked great. I got fastpasses while the others were doing their thing.
I won't use the 2 mile (1/2 watt power) ones again at WDW.

Try for the 5 mile models. You get a lot of cross talk so look for multiple channels. Some walkie talkies will require a liscense (FRS/GMS), which is about $75. If it is required it is usually on the box. I think a five mile range walkie talkie will require one.

The Disney 2 ways are on sale at Target for 20.98. Other people on this board have them and said they work well(2 mile radius) . Cked them out online and they are 54.99. Lisa
