We just added Rose and Crown to our ADRs. My BIL really wants to eat there and the rest of the family is excited to try it out. We originally had an ADR for lunch on December 22nd at 12:15, but then saw an opening for dinner at 8:00 and snagged it. We thought it would be great to be able to possibly view Illuminations. However, we took a closer look at the schedule and Illuminations is going to be at 10:30 that night so it doesn't seem like an option. Now we are trying to decide whether to cancel our dinner or lunch ADR. The menu looks pretty similar with just a few differences.

Wondering if anyone has any preferences for lunch or dinner there. We are also excited to hear about favorites on the menu and any reviews. Thanks!

dinners are great, they have very good food and drinks. 8 is not a bad time as you order drinks, apps and the main course, then dessert and coffee and it will take you to illuminations time. Also they have a private patio area to view illuminations that is really nice just in case you don't have a great view from your table. If you can get a seat along the water it is a great view, maybe a little chilly, so have a jacket.

We are heading down in a week and have reservations for late so we can view illuminations, it is really one of the best views. And like I said, good food and drinks.

DH and I ate there for the first time last May, at lunch. I had the open-faced corned beef sandwich, and LOVED it! It was like a reuben, but without the crunchy, greasy bread and with a lot more meat. AWESOME!

When the whole family went on NYE, we also had a lunch ressie. I was SO looking forward to that sandwich! But they switched up and were only offering the dinner menu the entire day. I was pretty disappointed. We enjoyed our meal. . .but I can't recall what I had.

I've only done dinner but have done it several times. Not so much a menu choice as it is my arrival day dinner choice. I like the shepherd's pie and the steak and fish dinner.

Thanks for the reply! We were really excited at the possibility of viewing Illuminations but when we saw how late they were going to be that night, we weren't sure if we would still be able to do so. Glad to hear you enjoy it and appreciate the tips! :-)

That would be disappointing! I am glad to hear you have enjoyed both though! :goodvibes

I was thinking about trying the shepherd's pie! I'm glad to hear it's good! :thumbsup2

I would stick with the dinner reservation. You are looking at 90+ minutes of dining time depending on if you do apps, entree's, desserts, after meal drinks, etc.. You won't be sat right at 8 pm (probably closer to 8:15-8:30 pm). That will take you to 10:00 pm if everything goes pretty smoothly. The key is to order your drinks/apps and wait until you are close to finished with them to order your entrees. If you order everything but desserts quickly your time there could drop to around 60 minutes.

My DW and I always order our drinks/apps and then wait to order our entree's. It does take us a little longer to dine but it gives us that extra time to make the correct choice.

Thanks for your tips and advice! Maybe we will stick with dinner then. Everyone is fine with eating that late and we usually take our time and stretch our TS meals out. Good point also about not being seated right away. It might work out for us after all. :)

I had a meat plate, can't remember clearly. Maybe beef, mashed potatoes and veg. It was blah. No taste of any seasoning -- like a Banquet frozen entree. BUT I ordered a Scotch Egg for an app, and that thing Rocked! Highly recommended.

Husband and I ate at Rose Crown a few weeks ago on our honeymoon, and it was honestly one of our favourite meals of the trip! He had the Imperial Sampler and loved it (although all of the beers except one we can purchase in Canada so it wasn't too "exotic") and the Chicken Masala which was his favourite dishes of the entire trip (and it still talking about it). I had the fish and chips and they were wonderful. We both split the cheese tray and loved it all except the blue (but we don't like blue cheese to begin with so that wasn't the fault of Rose and Crown).

It's a wonderful atmosphere, and a great place to have dinner!

I am curious about trying the Scotch Egg. Good to know that you enjoyed it!:o

I'm no fan of fish, but the Fish & Chips are great! :)

I'm glad to hear that the Fish and Chips are great! Several people in my family are eager to have them. I think I'm going to have a hard time deciding what to eat! Often I look at a menu and only see one or two things that I want to try. For some reason, there's a lot on this menu that I am interested in trying.:goodvibes

Your report makes me very excited to eat there! :thumbsup2

I can't comment on dinner but as you mentioned the menu is very close. It is our family's favorite and we try and get there every trip. Burgers, Fish and Chips, Corned Beef, and especially the Scotch Egg!!

Husband likes the fish and chips, I like the burger (and I would never eat another Scottish egg if you paid me money but that's me). But - all that food stuff aside - relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Don't think about Illuminations or whatever. Have fun! To me, that is worth the price of any Epcot World Showcase meal - lunch or dinner.

Our recommendations:
. . . appys:... Roasted Shrimp Cocktail with Spicy Bloody Mary mix
. . . entree:.. Corned Beef Sandwich (lunch), Roasted Rack Pork (dinner)
. . . dessert:. Chocolate Scotch Cake
.
NOTE: Rose & Crown is typical English cuisine. Nothing special, but usually about
average in quality. Viewing Illiuminations from the patio is a good view, although
seating on the patio is not reserved and you cannot wait for a table on the patio.
The bar/lounge/pub area is classic Engish with a great selection of beer and spirits.
Additionally, the "Hat Lady" piano player is excellent. Overall good for drinking and
snacking, but only so-so for meals. Let's face it, "English Cuisine" is an oxymoron.
.
NOTE2: People frequently ask for the patio. This is not guaranteed, and you MUST
take the first table available when you are called. You can no longer "wait" for a
patio table. Too many people would walk out if they didn't get the patio, now you
must agree to take the first table offered to you.

Don't forget the Sticky Toffee Pudding! Yum Yum

Just the name of it makes it sound yummy! We will add it to the list to try! :thumbsup2
